Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Pointer
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First let me say it is and honor to be asked to share my story but yes, as you stated I’m Michelle Pointer born and raised here in St Louis Mo.
I’m a Wife, Mother, Minister, Author, Entrepreneur and Founder of His Daughter Non-Profit Organization,
Whew that’s a mouthful Ha! but where I am now in life was inspired by the things, I’ve had to overcome along the way rather it was, times of low self-esteem, mistakes, bullying, becoming a teen mom, having the wrong relationships, then later becoming a wife at the age of 20 to name a few, I honestly experienced a lot, seen a lot, did a lot and a grew up way too fast, by the age of 40 I had recently divorced after 19 years of marriage and truthfully had to take a moment to heal and figure out who Michelle really was.
During that process, I literally spiraled and lost my way; I mean I was really MESSED UP mentally and emotionally not just from the divorce but all the things I don’t think I ever really processed in my life.
The crazy part is I was active in church at the time and was actually raised in church pretty much my whole life, so I always knew who God was but as I went through this journey, I realized that maybe my walk with him was more of a habit or religion than a true relationship, I had to finally stop going through the motions and just feel, hurt etc. In order to learn and experience Christ for myself and I know it may sound crazy to some, but I am grateful for that season, grateful for the divorce, grateful for the pain, grateful for the lessons because it allowed me to find me, unlocked so many different doors, gifts and ultimately gain a closer relationship with Jesus.
After overcoming the depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-worth etc. I was ready to help others do the same from this, I began motivational speaking, I wrote my first book which can be found on Amazon titled 20 Motivational Moments by Michelle Pointer my book basically talks about our feelings and responses to things. I like to say it makes us take a step back and check how we are responding in situations verses how God would want us to respond. Then after the book I later started His Daughters Non-Profit Organization; His Daughters is an outreach whose mission is to motivate, encourage and inspire young girls and women in the community.
Both inspired by my own challenges and triumphs.
Long story short, It was GOOD that I was afflicted.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Writing a book took discipline and starting a Non-profit, being a minister, hosting events etc. has been challenging but seeing how these things make such a positive difference in the lives of young girls and women has consistently made it all worth the work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My effort in the community has to be one of the things I am most proud of; His Daughters allows me to connect with girls and women of all ages in an effort to motivate, boost confidence, self-worth and self-esteem.
In our organization we host events for young girls ages 5-12, have mentorship and volunteer opportunities for girls 13-16 then host empowering events for women ages 16 and up.
In doing this we try to connect with girls and women of all ages to reach our young girls before they start facing some of life’s challenges and encourage women as they go through them.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Yes! Starting a business or non-profit in itself is a risk even now honestly, planning events that most times run off donations alone is tough. You never know if it’s going to meet the funding requirements or have the turn out that you would want but you can’t give up!! Just trust the voice of the Lord and GO!! Don’t allow the, no’s, closed doors, what ifs or fear to cripple you. If you are called to do anything God will always provide.
Trust him!
