Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Adams-Quentin.
Hi Monica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my career in radio in 1993 in a small town (Festus) in Missouri, just south of St. Louis. I worked as a morning show host and sports reporter while doing color commentating for high school football. I transitioned to DeSoto, MO, for my second job as a solo morning host for a small country music station. This step in my path was meant for me to be noticed to grab one of the jobs of my dreams: working at the legendary country music station WIL. I did mornings for 7 years while also serving as the News Director before I switched to television in 2005. I worked for the St. Louis Fox affiliate, KTVI, for 15 years while simultaneously hosting a Health and Fitness show on the well-known A.M. talk station KMOX which can be heard in all 50 states. I hosted that show for 8 years. While at KTVI, I did traffic anchoring and entertainment and fitness reporting.
In my final year, I did their community spotlight interviews while shooting, editing, and hosting the Show After The Show. I decided to leave in 2020 and switched back to news as an anchor for the NBC affiliate in KSDK. My three-year stint with them was during the pandemic, so it was a challenge broadcasting from home and being very innovative to help the community heal through Motivational Moments with Monica. These were inspirational segments for the body, mind, and soul. I also hosted Monica In The Metro, spotlighting businesses and events throughout Missouri and Illinois. I also did press junkets for all the movies in our Entertainment series.
I left television news in January of this year (2023) to launch my brand, The Real Monica Adams LLC, which encompasses all my passions. I started my YouTube show and podcast in March, which is all about positivity and balancing the mind, body, and soul. You can catch that live Monday through Friday at 7 am on Facebook and YouTube. My handle is @therealmonicaadams. We also drop a new show on all audio podcast platforms at 8 am. I have also been a personal trainer, Transformation Specialist, and Wellness Director for the last 25 years. I began Life coaching five years ago, hosting a class on Thursday nights, and then opened up my business to private life coaching in January of this year, and it has filled my soul to see how we can change your lives together. There is Hope within every one of you.
I am a motivational speaker, emcee, and auctioneer, nurturing my fashion passion for the last decade as a Design and Wardrobe Consultant for both men and women. I grew up in a fashion family with my mom as a seamstress and found my way to hone my skills as a personal stylist and eventually followed my dreams to be a lead custom design specialist. I am married to the love of my life. We dated in 2001 and found our way back to one another in 2013, and got married in 2015. God blesses us to have the incredible relationship we do. My husband Jim is a Lt. with the St Louis County Police, and I am a proud police wife and supporter of All First Responders. We have three rescue dogs, and those are our children. We love them dearly; Tessa, Adelaide, and Opus (Aubie). I have three older siblings, a sister, and two brothers. My mother is one of my best friends. I lost my father when I was only 24. We are blessed with many friends who we count as additional family and blessings in our lives!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing that is ever worthwhile to achieve in life comes easy. I had overcome so much in my life, from a massive blood clot when I was 19 years old that changed the trajectory of my life from wanting to be an Orthopedic Surgeon and studying sports medicine and physical therapy when I was at Mizzou in 1990 to shift my course to broadcasting, which was never even in my mind. I speak to thousands of people around the U.S., teaching them life skills and being open-minded to how different their life may look from their plans. We must always be ready to meet obstacles head-on and how we will react to what life throws us.
I was met with jealousy, insecurities (even more bosses), manipulators, haters, and nay-sayers during my 30 years in the broadcasting business. Still, I knew my value, hard work, skills, and who I was as an employee, and I would never let someone belittle me or tell me I couldn’t do something I set my mind to. My mother and father were very instrumental in how I lived my life. They taught me and my brothers how to work hard, treat others with kindness, be classy, generous with our souls, and go after anything we wanted. Never let others control your destiny. Give it your all; you can achieve anything through blood, sweat, and tears. I have gotten to where I am today because I went after it and started the Mantra “Know Your Value” to help others realize their true potential!
We’ve been impressed with The Real Monica Adams LLC, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
I launched my brand in 2023 after thirty years in broadcasting and 25 years in the Health and Fitness Industry, and over a decade in the fashion industry. I have always been an extremely hard worker and finally woke up after hearing for years that I was my brand to bring that to fruition finally. Sometimes God whispers to us, and we miss the message; for me, it led to a gut punch to wake up and stop being manipulated into believing I wasn’t who I knew I was. My dad has been gone for almost 28 years but came to me in visions so many times in the last year until he and God led me on the path to becoming an entrepreneur, and my life has never been better. We only realize how we are being manipulated once we are out of the circle of manipulation.
I have so many friends still in the negativity of the news business, and I look at and hear how miserable they are and feel so blessed to be out of the drama. The field has changed so much over the years, and it is hard for anyone to love being in it anymore because the journalistic creeds and ability to show your creativity and standards have been thrown out the window. It was hard to put my name, which I had worked so hard for, behind it due to my standards. I learned so much in the business that I was grateful for, and I took all of the positives from my broadcasting career (and it was a storied one) and launched my show the way I knew it needed to be done and what I knew the public wanted.
What I am providing to the world I have yet to see or hear being done, and I knew the world wanted it. We reached 1.1 million impressions on social media in the first 3 months, with an exponential growth in followers. My following has grown more since I left television, which speaks volumes. You never know when you will be in it. You sometimes need an out-of-body experience to see your true path and find clarity.
The Real Monica Adams show stands out from others because I don’t know anyone else that is preaching The Triangle of Life theory that I created that pulls the mind, spirit, and body together to give you the balance in life you are seeking. I provide you the tools to carry out what is needed of you and invest in you because I truly care and want to change the world on a Massive Scale! Our viewership and listenership have grown in the thousands because people seek this inspiration and the kindness they see in the community we have built. I am truly proud of what my team has done, and the sky is the limit to where we will change lives!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
I wish I hadn’t allowed myself to be pushed into the corner and manipulated by someone who I was told was jealous of who I was, my trust, respect, and the following I had because of who I was. I allowed a boss to squash my dreams for a time, broke free of those chains, and went out and carved out the life I wanted. At any given point in life, you can become who you have always wanted to be, personally or professionally. Too often, people believe they don’t have the skill set, intelligence, courage, or confidence, so they stay sedentary and stuck in their pattern of life. You and you alone have to believe in yourself and make life happen for you. It never matters what age you are or who you were in the past; all that matters is who you want to become and what you believe will happen to you. You have to go out and make it happen, though. Never let anyone squash your dreams, or they win! You are the true winner; show the world that! Believe, Believe!
