Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began in the industry in 1997 during my Undergrad journey at SIUE, performing at house parties on a large boombox using cassettes. After I was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, the popular DJ on 100.3 The Beat, Shawn Jackson, best known as DJ Playboy Mixx, took me under his wing and helped guide me in perfecting my craft. Phat Mixx Productions was birthed from that connection, merging my name, DJ Phat Mack, and his. Since then, countless unforgettable vibes have been created for special events throughout the Metro-East and Chicagoland areas.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the 20+ years in the industry, I’d have to say that COVID presented a great challenge as only a few hosted events were occurring. Despite quarantine, I was able to leverage the art of virtual connections. Digital DJ’ing became popular, and sites like Twitch and even Facebook allowed me to connect with my clients and those who may not have ever found me.
