Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Lane .
Hi Renee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My children, actually my youngest 2, wanted to start a YouTube channel. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I finally had extra time on my hands and said, “Okay, let’s do it. We started a family channel called Remilane Plus4 with challenges, vlogs, and a few hauls. I have 4 children. The oldest 2 are in college, so it became hard to line up our filming schedules, and the youngest 2 started to lose interest in filming. Because some of the clothing hauls I filmed on our family channel did pretty well, I decided to take on my channel and continue to do the clothing hauls. I am a bit of a shopaholic and have always been complimented on my outfits, and for the past decade, I have been struggling with my weight, so I thought this was perfect! Let me share my eye for fashion and beauty and my lifestyle with other women in my age range who are busy, on a budget, and may have packed on more pounds than expected from having to eat on the go and having no time to exercise; like me!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having a YouTube channel has not been a smooth road for me at all. I think many new YouTubers/influencers struggle with whether it is worth it! Filming and editing take time, and you may have to buy extra lighting and equipment for filming to produce good-quality videos. Finding the time to film and edit as a single mother with a full-time job is complex, and the slow growth in subscribers has me constantly up and down. I have thought of giving up so many times. Still, every time I say I’m done, a brand will reach out to me to collaborate, I’ll have a peak in viewers/subscribers, or I will get a comment on one of my videos that tells me how much they relate or how my video helped them and it gives me that push to keep going!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
There are a couple of YouTubers that inspire me. Parke Avenue and Nita Danielle. The quality of their content is what I aspire to create, and both of these ladies keep it real. They have both shared the stories of their YouTube journey and growth. Parke Avenue (Ashley Parke) even wrote a book to help other YouTubers with their journey. I have read her e-book and found it very helpful and inspiring.
