Hi Taysha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I wanted to be an entrepreneur and run my own company. I was a brownie scout and enjoyed the thrill of making a sale very early on. Entrepreneurship taught me that you could have anything you want if you’re willing to work hard. While studying mental health in my junior year of college, I decided to get back into the business world. That was how I became introduced to my professional mentor, created my brand, ‘My Winning Lifestyle,’ and truly learned the value of leadership!
I started my first clothing company business during my junior year of college and invested a couple of thousand dollars in getting things off the ground. I worked as a server at a bakery and picked up small gigs to raise enough cash to get my first batch of inventory. I did not have a mentor, a business partner, or anyone to help me figure things out. I researched books and online resources to learn how to run an LLC, an e-commerce business, and a clothing company. I quickly learned that there was no way I could run this clothing business by myself and work part-time while also finishing my bachelor’s degree. Social media marketing alone was many hours of work each week. My room quickly became a warehouse for my inventory and supplies. I still needed to have loans or additional funds to continue scaling the business immediately. I learned how to build my website, but purchasing domains, learning about SEO, and figuring out all the logistics without the expertise were challenging. I didn’t have the time to develop the brand into what I knew I wanted while still working and going to school. Quitting your current projects and going all in may work for some people, but I didn’t want to be running my business 40 to 60 hours each week or take such a huge risk. As a young person, I know many ways to make residual and investment income without putting in full-time hours. That was truly what I wanted, but I needed guidance on how to get there. When I met my business mentor and was introduced to online marketing, I learned that there are business models where I would need more inventory, a large investment, or be forced to quit school or my job. I learned about different investment opportunities that leverage the digital age that we’re in. This changed everything. The real reason I decided to take on a second business venture and create the My Winning Lifestyle brand soon after starting the first, as risky as it might’ve seemed, was because of the ability to have a mentor. I would like to learn from Oprah or Rihanna and become their protege. Since that opportunity never crossed my path, and this opportunity of having a community of other business owners to lean on and learn from, I took the chance!
Now, me and my fiance focus on building our online marketing business outside of our jobs because of our passion for helping other couples and families create a better lifestyle. We got engaged a few weeks ago after one of our business meetings in front of all of our business partners, and truly I couldn’t have been happier. Our kids and family get to see how serious we are about changing our legacy. There are so many ways to make money, like my selling clothing business, but so few ways to make a difference in hundreds of people’s lives. We want to do something that makes a difference, gives us time with our kids, and supports our long-term goals for our city.
There’s nothing better than being able to build a business with my best friend and as a family and help other people succeed! My mom and dad are very supportive and always spreading the word about our family venture. I am the first person in my family to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and start a successful business, so they are very proud. My little brother even has begun working at the school store and has goals to be a part of the family business someday.
I am passionate about My Winning Lifestyle because I believe everyone deserves to live a life they love. It’s incredible what taking a chance and leap of Faith did for my entire family’s future. I never imagined that I would be breaking the generational curses of poverty by simply building an online business, helping people get the products they need, and showing other families how to have their businesses.
Helping people create more income so they can provide for their families, or helping customers create healthier habits, are 2 responsibilities that give me a lot of purposes. I want people to win in their health. I want people to win in their relationships. I want people to win in their finances; my business organization is team-oriented. We involve a lot of families and love to travel! Being able to go around the country to learn from different people is a great experience. I’m very thankful I took the chance to bet on myself in college and start my own business because I would never have made it to St. Louis. In just a few short years, I’ve traveled over 25 times with my business partners and can’t wait until travel is monthly for us. This is the lifestyle I’ve chosen to create. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner, daughter, protege, and friend certainly has its challenges! I never struggled with trying to find a work/life balance because my business is truly my life. My business is my baby, so it has a high priority and influences everything I do. That can be challenging when navigating personal, familial, and romantic relationships. I’ve had my fair share of people close to me not being supportive, which is hard to handle in the beginning. I’ve learned that being a leader is about something other than pleasing everyone or trying to get everyone on my side. Keeping my emotions in check and making sure I’m making sound decisions would be extremely challenging without the support of my leadership team and my mentor! Sometimes it’s better to focus on the bigger battles that will have an incredible impact on my community, my family, and the future rather than the one person I want to support me.

We never guarantee success; we only provide the guidelines and resources to create it. If someone is truly serious about being an entrepreneur, that is when I develop a personal mentoring program. I love being about to invest my time and my hard-earned money into the right individual that I believe can truly become all they’re meant to become.

These choices will leave a positive impact after we’re long gone, and we truly don’t want to be just another company that exists for profit. What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see more people becoming a part of both the e-commerce industry and the whole body wellness industry. I’ve already seen major stores that were never in the supplement or skincare sector now producing those products. Our company currently holds over 600 pending patents, and that is because we certainly expect changes and growth. The pandemic made more people think about building a business in addition to their job income. No one wants to be left in a bad financial situation, and online-based and home-based businesses can give a family that safety net or additional income they need. The more people with some investment or secondary income, the more I see families able to create generational wealth. That is very exciting, especially for someone like myself who comes from a highly impoverished area.
