Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Glasco.
Hi Tracy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My degree is in dental hygiene. Three years into my career, I realized there is no way this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I had no idea what I wanted to do though.
In 2013, I picked up a friend’s camera and immediately fell in love. By 2014, I had my first photography business. In 2016, I moved to STL and opened up my boudoir photography business, Boudoir by Tracy Lynn where I’ve been showing women in the STL area exactly how beautiful they are just the way they are since.
One thing that is so extremely important to me (and what sets me apart from other business owners) though is freedom in my business. Yeah, it’s great to have a busy schedule and hit huge money goals, but if you don’t have time off to enjoy your life, what’s the point. So in 2019, I changed the way I do business. Instead of working every single week, basically letting clients dictate my schedule, I began shooting photography sessions two days a month so that I could travel with my boyfriend, Tome, the rest of the time for his job. This allowed me to work 30 hours total every month and have the rest of the month to do what I wanted.
This opened up doors for me as well to begin educating other photographers on how they can do the same (and still reach big money goals – my boudoir business hit seven figures in 2020). Since the end of 2019, I have helped photographers build sustainable freedom in their businesses while still making more than enough to not only leave their 9 to 5, but also retire their husbands (or wives), spend more time with their kids, and do more of what they love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely not always a smooth road. It took three years for me to truly make it work. It takes four years for me to finally leave my dental hygiene career.
Until 2019, I was working a lot of hours, and not valuing my time the way I should. When I met Tome, that’s when I actually saw how important time is with your family, so I completely changed the way I was working.
One thing I did before 2019, was always wish for what is to come. “It’s gonna be better when…” Instead of living in the now, I was basically wishing my life away. When I realized that I was doing that, that’s when things really changed for me. My personal life improved. My business improved.
… And I’m finally happy. I LOVE my life now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Boudoir Photography Studio: I specialize in giving women confidence through boudoir photography. I feel I am known for classy and timeless boudoir photos, helping women get comfortable super easily, and just overall showing women that they are perfect just the way they are.
Tracy Lynn Coaching: This is the education side of my business. Over here, I am known for helping photographers build sustainable freedom in their life… for helping them see the bigger picture… and showing them they don’t have to work ridiculous hours and make little to no money just because they are an artist.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I am so wrapped up in the business side that when I am listening or reading anything off-hours, it’s for sure not work-related. I love true crime podcasts! Morbid and Killer Queens are my go-to’s.
