Meet Ty Swain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Swain.

Ty, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Altadena, California. I attended John Muir High School from 9th grade to 11th.

That’s when I started rapping just for fun. I was only 16 at the time. I moved to Sacramento the next year, where I took the music industry seriously after being inspired by my stepfather who is known as Sacramento underground legend Luni Coleone, or Lunasicc.

Within the last few years, I’ve performed a few concerts in Sacramento, Oakland, and Hollywood even. I’ve released music under my alter ego “Tireezey Mak.” My cousin (Tre) and I started a record label, “money comes first” or mcf for short.

I’ve soon after changed my name and now known as “MCF Mak” we’ve published a few music videos, albums, even started a clothing line.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I didn’t have much guidance. Much of what I’ve learned in this business, in the industry, was not what I expected.

You have to really be passionate in this field. You have to be ready to be disappointed, to fail, get rejected but still persistent enough to not give up. I haven’t had many struggles, but I will say it has been a journey full of trials and errors.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Outside of music, surprisingly, I was a teacher for a while.

I was working with children younger than me in high school, and majored in early childhood education in college. I haven’t graduated yet, but I was in a program that helped me get certified to substitute for various schools.

After a while, I got the opportunity to teach a 3rd-grade class daily during Covid for a year once schools were opened back up.
