Today we’d like to introduce you to Vernon “Longhorn” Davis.
Hi Vernon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m just your average guy next door. Old Country Boy born in Texas, lived all over the country and has made St Louis his home for almost 30 years.
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son of Shirley (that’s my Momma) and Man of God. As far as what do I do, I tell people it depends on the day of the week or time of the day.
My Professional Career is in the Automotive Industry, currently I am an Automotive Service Management Consultant for an Automotive Manufacturer. Yet, I have been in the Automotive Industry for almost 30 years.
My Passions are things that I do that I hold near and dear to me. Professional Stand-Up Comedian (National/International), Published Author (2 Books), Public Speaker, Veteran Advocate for Suicide Prevention, Co-Owner of a Comedy Booking agency (Laughter Has No Color) and Founder of a Non-Profit for Veterans (ThankU4YourService.com). My Hobbies: Fishing, Building Computers, Brand Building, Gardening and learning how to do almost anything.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most people, my journey has been a mixture of smooth roads and goat paths of the side of a rocky mountain. Looking back, I would probably not change a thing about how I came and arrived at the point in my life that I am in. I believe that everything happens for a reason.
At my age, I can see how many things along my path has created the man that I am now. When I think back, I wish there were people around that would have taught me to avoid certain pitfalls, yet again I think those pitfalls taught me to be better.
Struggle, I still have my struggles, I am not perfect. I still struggle with just being a better person on a daily basis. I struggle with my own mental health and some of the scars I received from my early life. One of my biggest challenges is how to help improve the world day by day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Being a Professional Stand-Up Comedian has been my crowning achievement over the past 20 years after my family. Comedy has been a part of my life since I was a kid. I learned early in life, if you can make people laugh you have a better chance of them allowing you in their life.
Comedy has taken me places I never dreamed of. I have travelled to Germany 3 times to entertain our Troops, I have performed in over 35 states and met people along the way that I will never forget. This passion of mine has landed me on National Television 3 times and even allowed me to be a National Morning Show Personality.
Yet, Comedy has been the building blocks for my other passions and allowed me to use it as a pathway to my other accomplishments.
The creativity that I have had to use to be a comedian are some of the same tools that I have used to accomplish many things in my life.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
This is a great question. I often tell people, “I am not great at starting things, but I am awesome at helping people with what they are doing”.
Collaboration is so important in any area and often people will bring their unique talents to a project that is completely unrelated, this helps us to see things from a different perspective, grow and succeed.
You can support me by working to be a better person, living your best life and remembering that everyone has not shared your experiences and could use a hand.
To support me personally, I find this one hard to say aloud, but here goes. You can buy my book “Messages in the Madness – revisited 2022”, attend one of my comedy show, hire me to be a speaker at an event and/or help a veteran.
