Today we’d like to introduce you to Blissandra Armstrong.
Hi Blissandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started modeling in high school, but made the decision to focus on college studies and put it on the backburner. Then in 2014, I started back. I started off with photoshoots, fashion shows, being in music videos, magazines, and co-hosting radio shows. Now I background sing and act: I’ve always loved the fact that I can branch out and do more with my modeling. Staying true to myself, having encouraging people in my corner, and continuing to utilize my talents have kept me going with modeling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Modeling is not always a smooth road. When it comes to doing photoshoots with different photographers, some discriminate, others try to take advantage of you, and some of them will not take accountability for things that they say and do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I model, act, and background sing. I have been in several plays and participated in a couple of bands. I am known for not letting others dim my light. What sets me apart from others is that I am unique and bold in my own way. I love being me and encourage and inspire others to love themselves as well. I always look at myself as competition. No one can be me and I stay true to myself, that is my superpower. I am proud of not letting anything or anyone stand in my way and my resilience to keep moving forward and not look back.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice would be surround yourself with people that have goals and are working on them. They will inspire you to do more than what you are currently doing. We all are working hard to win, there should be no jealousy. Also, leave a good impression so when people bring up your name, the opportunities will appear before you. I’ve always looked on social media for people to work with and hopefully build a bond with. People that I have worked with before have brought opportunities to me and I appreciate them so much.
