Rising Stars: Meet Darion Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darion Walker.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I was always a music lover, starting from the age of 3 when my mother bought nothing but countless albums from hip hop and r&b artists who she supported, such as Tupac, Master P, Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, etc. I had found out I could sing by age 6 and start writing raps to get a feel of what it’s truly like to be in a musical headspace. Growing up in St. Louis, I was also influenced by the effect hip hop legend Nelly provided for the city by arranging fun events that see the city in a different light as I aspire to achieve that same level of reach had, if not more. During one of my childhood birthdays, my mother brung a cd of mine into school to play in class and surprised people I knew. Fast forward to high school, I would join various art and theatre programs, having been in the men’s choir all 4 years, being in different plays, and joining the dance team my senior year. I was always a shy person and selectively social, which led to people naturally being drawn to me. I began to take music seriously after attending Harris Stowe State University and joining the drum line, which I had also done in my childhood. I had started showcasing performances across the St. Louis area to get my name out there. The most recent performance I had completed to date was opening up for a Wifiisfuneral at red Rock STL. In 2020, I released my debut EP: Before Everything, with great reviews from listeners and colleagues alike! Currently, I am working on singles, and my next project is dropping In July, titled: Future Superstar, as it is the next step in my musical journey! My ultimate goal Is to be the best thing out of STL and the next big thing in music when I blow up!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been as easy as most things worth fighting for. I’ve battled through writer’s block, depression, and anxiety, just to name a few. Working in various places and bouncing from job to job to fund my career is something I had to learn to adjust to and knowing that I have to put in the time and gain resources, it’s been pretty up and down. However, I remain vigilant and open to new opportunities that may present themselves by continuously staying proactive and feeding my supporters with content that makes them laugh while showing my vulnerability too!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for having a superstar-like quality, and I’m working hard to fulfill my destiny as a musician and entertainer! I’ve also begun to study the art of music production as it will greatly benefit me as a musician by letting me have a diverse skill set other than being just an artist, and what sets me apart from others is my voice and stage presence which I feel like is one of a kind and how I explain certain things in my songs which can grab attention from as many people my reach will allow me to!

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, I’ve learned how quickly the pandemic affected so many lives, and it brought people closer together than ever before; I even was a victim of covid-19, which felt entirely different from Everything that I’ve experienced before, and it led me to write a song about it called The Virus. The song details what it was like to deal with symptoms and clarifies how it affected me during the crisis.
