Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Crée
Hi Micah , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely my journey with music began when I was just three years old. Growing up in Saint Louis, I was surrounded by a rich arts culture that fueled my passion for music early on. I was deeply inspired by artists like Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, Brandy, Selena, and Lauryn Hill—women whose music carried soul, storytelling, and empowerment. Their influence sparked something in me, a dream to one day share a stage of my own.
Attending Grand Center Arts Academy gave me the foundation to explore my artistry and refine my craft. Over time, I developed my own sound—a fusion of soul, R&B, and pop, often compared to artists like Macy Gray and Corinne Bailey Rae. Music has always been a way for me to express emotions and connect with people on a deeper level.
Fast forward to 2023, I released my debut EP, Metaphors Vol. 1, on my birthday, December 31st. That project was a pivotal moment for me—it’s a reflection of my growth, my stories, and my vision as an artist. The songs, like Daydream and Carousel, allowed me to bring my music to life not just sonically but visually, with music videos that add another layer to the experience.
This is just the beginning of my journey, and I’m excited for what’s ahead. My goal has always been to create music that resonates, that moves people, and that tells a story in a way only I can.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth—it’s been a journey. This has been my dream and passion since I was a little girl. Ever since I was three years old and heard Alicia Keys’ Fallin’ on the radio, I knew music was what I wanted to do. But the truth is, it’s hard work, and it doesn’t happen overnight.
There have been moments where I had to put music on pause, step back, and focus on personal growth. Life happens, and sometimes you have to navigate detours before getting back on track. Now that I’m back, I have so much to say, so many stories to tell, and a renewed sense of purpose as an artist.
To answer your question—what road do you know that’s completely smooth? There are always bumps along the way, but that’s what makes the journey worth it. Every challenge, every setback has shaped me into the artist I am today, and I wouldn’t change that for anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and artist who specializes in blending elements of pop, soul, and R&B. My debut EP, Metaphors Vol. 1, released on December 31, 2023, is a reflection of my personal transformation—each song represents a different stage of my journey.
What sets me apart is my unique, soulful voice and distinctive style. I’ve always stayed true to who I am as an artist, creating music that is both deeply personal and relatable. I’m most proud of Metaphors Vol. 1 because it’s an authentic expression of my growth, passion, and artistry. Through my music, I aim to connect with people in a way that feels real and timeless.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is key. In the social media era, having an online presence is more important than ever—it’s helped me connect with people and build my audience. Networking takes effort, but putting yourself out there, engaging with other artists, and staying consistent can open so many doors. I’m still learning myself, but one thing I’ve realized is that genuine connections matter the most.
As for mentors, I’m grateful to have three—Ashley Sabrel, Tiffany Irene, and Jimel Jones—who push me to be the best artist I can be. It’s always good to have mentors who truly understand you, not just as an artist but as a person. Their guidance has been invaluable in my journey.
