Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Ralls
Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2014, January 14, I collapsed on the Nursing floor from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I was taken to my oncologist where we had a meeting with my Primary & Pain Mgmt Drs. My oncologists explained that we were at our end, and they would place me on palliative care and transition me through to Hospice Care until I passed away. They further went to say that I should “make funeral arrangements, as it will take the burden off my family.” I was furious! I immediately fired all 3 oncologists and stopped taking 19 medications. I was exhausted! I immediately dove into my Nutrition degree, and went back to add more education into food, vitamins minerals and herbs. I had been in my Nursing degree for 20 years and had had stated mainly educated in my psych and diabetes management certifications. So diving back into food, to heal myself was vital. Being in a wheelchair, in extreme pain, and extremely weak. I had to depend on my children and my husband to assist me with showering and understanding what foods I needed and where to obtain them. As I stopped eating from the grocery stores. I stepped into growing my own food. I began researching local farmers to understand what foods they do have and where I can obtain real food and not food placed with toxins and chemicals. Over the next 6 months I walked out of my wheelchair and I within 12 months I was 90 pounds down and Cancer Free. I opened Show Me Nourish in January 2015. And to date I’m cancer free and helping those suffering with chronic illness and disease to heal treat and prevent through real food. I show you how to choose and eat real food.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not been easy. It’s a daily build, collaborating and building relationships to grow this business. I’ve stayed in constant education, and self development. Learning social media, and being in consistent movement to educate and know the latest in health and wellness. I’m always in my phone and building your passions can cause stress on those you love. They do not support for the most part. And it’s cause a 35 year friendship turned 15 years this year of committing to each other and 12 years this year married. The marriage has struggled. And it’s all been financially. When you want to grow your passions, sometimes you are on your own. It can create resentment, bitterness and daily drama. You need to learn how to navigate. Not always easy. So no, it’s been a time where the business was really good. And COVID struck. It’s been a re-growth process. I’ve climbed out of a deep hole these past 12-14 months. One that has made me proud of who I am and where I have come.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Licensed Nutritionist, Nurse and Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist. I assist clients who are suffering from chronic illness and disease. To learn what foods they need to eat/willing to eat and when to eat them as well as why to eat them. We are each a person of our own. What you like, may not work for you. Understanding what foods do energize, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugars. Heal chrons, ulcerative colitis etc.. Knowing the food is important. So where do you get the food? That’s also important. Growing your own food is a great option. Building relationships with your local farmers is even more vital. I help you find those farmers and CSA’s so that you begin your journey with knowledge and consistency in your journey. I work with groups and yes, I do have one on one opportunities for those who are really ready to dive into their health and making the changes. I work with your doctors, if willing to listen, to assist you in the process of reducing medications and continuous monitoring. My speciality is Diabetes Management. I understand Diabetics as it’s been the #1 killer in my family. I took to learning, educating and certifying myself in that area. My diabetic clients meet goals in their first week. I’m working with a current client that was on Ozempic that within 2 weeks has not been on his Ozempic, nor has he taken his long acting or short acting insulin since the first week we began working together. His pain has reduced, and he is no longer going to bed right after work, nor stopping along the road to take a nap. What sets me apart is the ability to test my clients within their own home. They do not have to leave their home to take an in-home blood spot test that provides them an over all assessment to their health. As well, I am able to specifically offer knowledge on foods that notate how the function to and for the body from the moment they come in contact with our mouth. It helps the client understand why they should or should not eat that food. I offer a 911 service to my clients. As I specifically handle your mindset and emotional eating right up front. When we understand why we think the way we do, and why we respond the way we do. It helps us break down the choices to make better ones. What I do involves you and I. It’s not done just by you. In the end, you do as you please. But you always have love, community, commitment and honestly when we work together.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have found my mentors by following people who inspire me on social media. Like any mentor, you sometimes don’t always see eye to eye. That’s why I have several that I work with. Networking has always been fun! I enjoy people. I enjoy getting to see, hear and find value in how someone may do the principle title of what I do. But no one does exactly what I do. Leading me to be intrigued and be intriguing to others. I always tell my people. Follow who inspires you. If I don’t motivate you? Please provide me that feedback. Feedback is neutral. But get around those who do clearly as you and your vision. Be eager to watch, listen and learn. Never be shy about you! Be authentic, and always be in love.
