Rising Stars: Meet Nicole Parsons of West County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Parsons

Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve had a love for operating a camera and editing photos from a pretty young age. Around the age of 12, I started talking about being a photographer one day. You could often find me posing my sister for photos with my digital camera, or just taking a million photos with friends and family. Not long after that, I started adding “big fancy camera” or “big fancy” to wish lists, yearly. While my family couldn’t provide me with that, they did provide me with the best digital cameras they could. When I was 22, I got my first “big camera” (a Canon Rebel) and immediately started photographing anyone who would let me! I took years to learn, explore, and practice before eventually trying to pursue making my favorite hobby into a career.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! Getting started was a struggle for me, as I am not a big fan of putting myself out there. Self promotion has been the hardest part of the “job.” Photography is a highly saturated community, so it can be tough to find clients!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in family photography. I have dipped into weddings, boudoir, maternity, and newborn. While I love all of the above, I love to do lifestyle family sessions most, as I can focus on capturing sweet real life moments.
