We recently had the chance to connect with Amaris and have shared our conversation below.
Amaris , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Hey! I’m super grateful you all are sharing my story. With where I am in my life, integrity holds the most weight. It’s never been more clear that honesty, transparency, and accountability truly go a long way. Relationships of all kind have been a focus currently and staying rooted in integrity has strengthened the relationship I have with myself, family & friends, and most importantly Jesus Christ. Perfection isn’t real and we will all make mistakes in our lives so I think it’s important to face them, admit your wrongs and work to be & do better each day we’re blessed with.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amaris and I’m a multifaceted artist who enjoys singing, dancing, writing, song composition, teaching, studio recording and performing. Church and family homes birthed me into the artist that I am now; from singing solos in church along with the children’s choir, creating dance routines with my siblings and cousins, to performing in summer camps. Creativity has always been a safe space for me. 2020 was the year I took the step to began recording music and that lead me to release my debut single “Seraphic Passion” produced by my brother Hyde Esco and written by me. That moment deeply catapulted me into the world of the music and entertainment. I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunities of being a show opener, live supporting vocalist, a background dancer, and featured artist! I released by debut EP titled “Enjoy the Journey” on an all digital platforms June 4th, 2024 and that was a dream! I’m very inspired by the artistry of Janet Jackson, Chris Brown, and TLC. I stay true to myself but keep them in mind when approaching artistic creation. In the fall of 2023 I was even blessed with the opportunity to join a dope collective of artist and together we became Rents Due Collective! I have the honor of teaching the children in my community ballet, tap, and jazz! I’m very grateful to have this position because it’s truly the most rewarding. I’m currently continuing to develop and grow as an artist and person day by day. God is at the center in all that I do! More music and visuals coming from Amaris soon!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Growing up in church there were two songs that I’d love to sing, one being “He Wants It All” by Forever Jones and the other being “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. I remember seeing tears fall on the faces of the people in the pews and I’d cry as well because the lyrics in both songs were just that powerful. Those moments showed me just how powerful music and singing can be and as a young girl it felt good to know that I made other people feel good.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell her tell her that she really is beautiful and she’s worthy of love.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family, friends, laughter, and most importantly my relationship with the lord.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
She did her best.
