An Inspired Chat with Carter Clark of Greenville, Illinois!

Carter Clark shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Carter, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Great question! And yes, I would hire me.

I think that one of the biggest aspects of social media is adaptability and learning how to switch tracks quickly to keep up with what’s happening, whether that be with a trend or if an app is pushing certain videos out to fit what they want to see on their platform. We built our accounts to where they are with 10-15 second videos, and then for a time, social media platforms were wanting to see longer videos. We had to start planning out longer videos and couldn’t just rip out three 10 second videos anymore. But now, we think it’s starting to swing to shorter, personal videos.

But it’s also seeing where peoples’ interests are at and knowing when it’s starting to switch, and some of that is jumping on it early or sometimes even being the catalyst for the knew trend.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
That Tall Family is a unique and engaging family content brand with a towering presence—both figuratively and literally. With over 4 million followers across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook and more than 4 billion views in the last three years, That Tall Family creates family-friendly content that resonates with audiences of all ages, focusing on clean fun and humor centered around our extraordinary heights.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I think this question demonstrates the beauty of That Tall Family, and that what you see in our videos is exactly who we are. God didn’t just uniquely create us, but He uniquely created every single person on earth in His image (Genesis 1:27). And it isn’t our natural appearances or our height that defines us, but it’s a launching point for a ministry that goes beyond social media views, which is Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

The mission of That Tall Family is create family-friendly content that also glorifies the creator of the universe by reminding people that who they are is exactly who God designed them to be, and that’s a beautiful thing!

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Early on in That Tall Family’s story, we weren’t getting the millions of views we are now. In fact, I remember when our TikTok account rolled over to 10k followers and celebrating because we made it big. I definitely wasn’t thinking only three years down the road to having 4 million followers, but you absolutely cannot give up. A lot of people will argue quality over consistency, and 9/10 times I’d agree with that, however, there’s something to be said about consistency and what that does.

To post 2-3 times a day, everyday, for a year builds up a library of videos for people to keep coming back to, but it also builds up reps so you’re able to slowly go from consistency over quality to consistent quality. I can’t remember almost giving up, but there have been countless times where powers outside our control have changed algorithms or not pushed videos out for unknown reasons and we just don’t get the views on a video we thought we should’ve.

But not giving up is a piece of advice I’d give to anybody in any industry, because it isn’t exclusive to social media.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I honestly don’t see how being fake or pumping up the truth is beneficial, especially when you get popular on social media. We get lots of people who come up to us in public to say Hi, and if we weren’t actually tall, or we weren’t a great family, people would notice instantly and the gig would be up.

Obviously, there’s going to be things that people don’t like about themselves or think that they need to have “more” in order to be interesting on social media, but that isn’t true at all; if there is something you’re interested in, you have a social media topic! If you’re good at something, you have something to post on social media! There’s always something to post about or talk about, because if you’re interested in something, there’s going to be at least one other person in the world that likes the same thing.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That we faithfully served the Lord. There are countess verses in the Bible, along with an entire book, about how the earth and everything in it is temporary but God isn’t, but I really like what Isaiah 40:8 says: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Just as we’re going to inevitably pass away, so will our social media accounts. But the Lord lives forever, and that all who believe in the work of Christ Jesus are able to join Him in heaven eternally.
