We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chris Geden. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Chris , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Friday on the river.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chris Geden , I work for River City Outdoors and we are working hard to make sure all people have access to Outdoor Recreation by removing barriers and creating equitable opportunities through programs and outreach in the Metro region and beyond.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My mentor Rob West, we were like brothers and he always challenged me to do more and always providing me with the opportunity to see what true leadership looked like while always remaining a humble servant leader.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Losing my child to suicide was absolutely devastating and I honestly didn’t know if I could continue to exist. I did survive determined to be a better ally and human because of all the support rom my family and friends and that support continues to this day.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Truly making outdoor recreation equitable for all. So many underserved communities in our area don’t have access to the great outdoors and there are barriers but I/We are committed to changing the culture in outdoor recreation.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely born to do , just didn’t realize it until now. I absolutely love what I get to do everyday.
