We recently had the chance to connect with Dominique Nash and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
For the past 5 years, I can honestly say that I am truly proud of rebuilding me. I know that is not a typical answer lol, but it’s my honest truth. For someone who has been lost, and by lost, I mean losing my identity. I retired young from styling hair to give birth to my husband and I 4th child and decided not to return back to standing behind a chair anymore. As courageous as that sounds, being a hairdresser was my art since a very young age and to finally put down my tools was the sweetest saddest song in my heart because I gave up a huge part of myself and I had to find out who I was without cosmetology. I embraced being a stay-at-home mom and wife, which I never knew how much I missed but I still had art within me screaming to come out and that’s when I discovered content Creation. Now, back to the question, what am I most proud of building, that nobody sees, the simple answer is me. 🥰
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Dominique Nash and I am a mother and wife who creates content and writes music for our brand called Welcome To The Nash House by Domi. Our music is available on all platforms and we love to share our love with you through music, comedy skits, foodbloging and travel.
Now, what makes our brand different is that I write and produce all our music and my children also play instruments for our songs as well. My husband is our photographer 📸 and Videographer and we direct our own music videos too. It’s a family of six artists who loves to create art and music to inspire others with love and melodies.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Wow, great question. What part of me has served it’s purpose and must now be released? To be completely transparent, I struggled most of my life trying to please other people. I would dim my light to make others comfortable just to have a sense of friendship with them but that took a toll on my self confidence and self worth so I had to release it. People pleasing is no longer who I am and many people who knew that version of me are no longer around either, because they do not identify with this new version of me. This new me had to learn about boundaries and it’s okay to shine my light, even if it does make others uncomfortable. That’s something for them to work on and it’s not my job. I am grateful for the lessons I have learned from people pleasing because now I know what I am not willing to accept in my life anymore.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I had to retire from being a cosmetologist professional leaving a business that I was part owner of and walking away with nothing but memories. I had to face that being a cosmetologist was no longer me. I transmuted that pain into creating content, canvas painting, modeling, singing, writing and building a community of love ❤️ on our platforms. I chose love no matter how much I hurt, love wins.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe in myself at all cost and no matter how long it takes, I will continue to spread love with my art and music until I inspire others to choose love at all cost. That could be self love, love for humanity, whatever, as long as we raise the love frequency for the future of the planet.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I know that I am doing what I am meant to be doing. Being a singer/songwriter and creator has been my dream my entire life. I would get asked as a child and people would laugh and think I was unrealistic with my goals in life but I knew I could do it. Now, that doesn’t mean I never fell short or down on myself. I just got to the point that even if those people couldn’t understand or see the vision, they were not meant to go with me on the journey anyway. I was told to fit in, comform and be like everyone else, and that almost took my spark away. So instead, I did the opposite, I wanted to be an actor and I created skits to act in on TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram until I was offered an acting role with a online network. When I was ready to create music, I stepped back from acting and studied singing to build my confidence to write and record music. I then needed music so I bought my children instruments that they asked for because they were inspired by me going for my dreams and we have over 10 songs right now available on YouTube Apple Music Spotify TIDAL Amazon music Deezer and many more. Im glad I never gave up on my dreams.
