An Inspired Chat with Jessy Johnson of Ferguson

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jessy Johnson. Check out our conversation below.

Jessy, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have always struggled to reach out and ask for help. I try to do things on my own and that stops me from accomplishing a lot of the things I want to do. Recently, I have been reaching out for help in different areas and I can already see so many benefits to doing so.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jessy and I am the Executive Director of The Love Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to spreading love through small acts of kindness. Our mission is simple but powerful—to show people that compassion can change lives and that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued.

Since launching in 2018, we’ve hosted empowering events for young girls, community drives that provide food and hygiene essentials to families in need, and outreach efforts that bring hope during times of tragedy. Every event and project we do is built around inclusion, empowerment, and genuine connection.

What makes The Love Mission unique is how personal it is. It started from my desire to remind people that love still exists in the world—and that we all have the power to be part of it. Right now, we’re working on expanding our reach through creative fundraisers like our upcoming Superhero Trivia Night, which combines fun, community, and giving back.

At the heart of everything I do—whether it’s coaching, speaking, or serving through The Love Mission—is a commitment to helping people rediscover their strength, take action, and make a difference, one small act at a time.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One of the quotes that is the driving force behind The Love Mission is from Mother Teresa: “We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” A few years ago, I was overwhelmed by all of the bad things happening in the world and didn’t believe I could genuinely make a difference. This quote was a gentle reminder that although I cannot change the world, I can have an impact on the community and people around me – which can still make a great difference.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of failure has most held me back in my life. I have been afraid of other people’s opinions way too much, and am learning that someone else’s opinion of me is none of my business. I have learned that failure is just an opportunity to learn.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am devoted to building a world where inclusion is more than a buzzword. My mission is to make people feel seen, heard, and empowered to show up as their authentic selves.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I showed up authentically, honestly, and with great courage. I hope people say that I was a positive person and made a difference in the world.
