We’re looking forward to introducing you to Katy Lewis. Check out our conversation below.
Katy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Being present on social media! For so long I had a love/hate with social media like so many do, I just realized at one point to get over myself and start showing up for your brand.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello my name is Katy Lewis, proud mother to two beautiful children Vivian Marie & Drake James who are my Irish twins. Going 4years strong as the owner of VivianJames & Co. A salon built for the ones who are ready to rise.
We’re not just here to do beautiful hair (though we do that too). We’re here to help you reclaim your power in the chair and in your life.
We believe mental health matters deeply, but we don’t tiptoe around it. We hold space, then we hold you accountable because staying stuck isn’t the goal. Rising is.
Our Team is the first Mental Health First Aid Certified salon in the area, not to slap on a label, but to lead differently. With strength. With depth. With edge.
And we’re not just building a salon. We’re building a new standard for the industry.
Whether you’re a client looking to feel like yourself again, more confident, more powerful, more you, or a stylist ready to lead with purpose and build something bigger than yourself
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Oh 100% my best friend Kailyn she is my ying to my yang, she has always seen me for my true authentic self for the last 20 plus years. She believed in me at times when I didn’t believe in my self which sometimes would cause riffs. When you are not comfortable in your own skin having someone trying to get you to believe in yourself is difficult in those growing years. Thankfully when people love and see you the true you they are always in your corner ready to cheer you on.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You are never too much” stop watering yourself to make others feel better about themselves. You will never fit in that box and that’s ok! BE loud, goofy ,messy BE the confetti popper.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Advocating for Mental health, teaching our youth how to have healthy relationship with our emotions/feelings and making Mental first aid certification as important as First Aid certification, especially in the beauty industry not just for the clients but for the service providers to understand how to have healthy boundaries.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story of when the comeback was so much louder and greater than the breakdown. Showing her Childern that whatever life threw at their mom she had grit and was resilient. While always doing it with love and peace in her heart.
