An Inspired Chat with Kevin Gill of South St. Louis

Kevin Gill shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
My business is creating work for either myself or others, and that it IS work. The most misunderstood thing is that it can be hard work both physically and mentally to create something that can “wow” both you and the viewer without being too repetitive with your work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Kevin Gill, creator and owner of Kevin Gill Art. I create artwork and imagery the resemble the mental health and a visual connection to music. Not only do I create art for general viewing I also create for individuals and businesses as commissions are always welcome. I tend to build my business to be seen by a larger audience and also one day hope to teach my methods to people wanting explore more into Fine Arts.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment will have to be when I participated in my very first art fair some years ago and it opened my eyes to see how difficult it is to create art full time and make a steady income. From that moment I’ve learned over time the business ethics of running an art business to create part-time at least to provide extra income to have a steady living. I applaud those who put all of their eggs in a basket and made it work out for them.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Stop caring about opinions and just do it. I’ve learned as I grew older that most opinions from others were meant to prevent you from succeeding further.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Having a seperate studio business storefront to create and sell work. I’d like to move my studio out of my basement and put it in an actual setting meant for my products.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
In my studio with music playing, a beer, and a project that I know will satifsy me when it’s complete.
