An Inspired Chat with Mia Mudd of South County

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mia Mudd. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Mia, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
When some hear that I am an aesthetician they assume it’s an easy job, but it can be very draining at times. Not only are you helping people build their confidence, but you become a safe space for many people. At times it can be a lot providing comfort to many different types of people. There are times when my social battery is very low after a long day, but knowing the reward of my job makes it all worth it. I love my job and knowing I provide a safe space for many people, and I am grateful I have clients who allowing me to practice my craft.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mia Mudd, I am a licensed aesthetician located at The Beauty Bar on Telegraph road in Oakville. I am waxing specialist providing care for many woman in the Saint Louis area. I take pride in educating my clients to achieve the best results possible. I have many five star reviews accrediting my work. I truly try to make every client feel welcomed, important, and empowered. I am working on growing my business and gaining clientele. I am always trying to learn more and improve my business.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Coming from a very hard working family I learned a lot about the importance of a good work ethic. My dad owns his own business, and I have watched him grow that for the past 20+ years. Truly what inspired me to open my business and be my own boss is watching my parents. My mom has done everything to provide for the family, and it has helped shape me into the work ethic I have today. Without my family I truly don’t believe I would be half the worker I am today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that there is nothing to be anxious about, and you’re doing better than you think. I wasted lots of time as a child worried about things that didn’t matter, and always stressed about the “what if”. Over time I have learned that it will all be alright and there is no reason to stress over things that you can’t control.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Being kind. It comes like second nature to me, and it takes no effort to spread a bit of kindness. Opening the door, giving out a complement, and staying positive can improve someone’s day more than you would know. Being able to walk away from the day knowing I tried my best to be kind to others feels very rewarding. Kindness will take you far in life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am definitely not doing what I am told. If I was told as a child I would be a waxing specialist I would think that is crazy. I am the first aesthetician of my family. I have been obsessed with the beauty industry ever since I was a kid, and would force my family to sit down at my “hair salon”. I don’t rush my timeline nor compare myself to my peers around me, because I find that’s when people loose interest in the idea of individuality.
