An Inspired Chat with Morgan Green of Maplewood

We recently had the chance to connect with Morgan Green and have shared our conversation below.

Morgan, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I believe that energy is the most important of these three for many different reasons.

Let me start by saying that I think all of these qualities/attributes are important in a well-rounded person, but I would have to argue that with “good energy,” you have all three. Hear me out.

To me, when you have good energy, you seek knowledge, you perform as your best, most authentic self, and you bring out the best in yourself and others. As this relates to my work—being an esthetician—energy is so much more than a positive setting toward life. It’s the peace and calm you bring to a treatment, and it’s also what you give outside of the treatment room entirely. I feel like this can relate to many different fields of work, life in general, and whatever you’re passionate about.

We’ve all experienced days when we’re lacking energy—mentally, emotionally, and physically—and we know firsthand how that impacts work, life, and relationships. Not only does it affect the world around you, but it doesn’t make you want to pursue learning, growth, or treating yourself and others with kindness and compassion. It makes you feel like doing nothing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi!! My name is Morgan! I’m the owner, esthetician, and wearer of all the other hats at Morgan Green Esthetics. I became a business owner in April of 2024 after working at Lark Skin Co., which unfortunately closed its storefront. Since then, I’ve been growing my own business and exploring what that looks like for me!

There’s a big difference between working for someone else and being your own boss, and I am happy to say that new things are on the horizon at MGE. I’ve also been continuing my education to bring more to my clients!

Currently, I’ve been diving deeper into advanced facial massage techniques. This has been a dream of mine for a long time—I’ve always loved the power of intentional touch since my early days as an esthetician. I’ll soon be introducing new techniques, facials, and even more massage that lifts, sculpts, and restores the skin.

The space I’ve created for myself and my clients has become a safe haven for all things skin—a quiet, loving environment where you’re free to be yourself. My mission is to empower you with the knowledge and tools to care for your skin confidently at home—and we’re taking it to the next level soon!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This is such a great question and makes me think about a couple of things!

I believe bonds break between people for many different reasons: trust is broken, similar interests are lost, distance, etc. There are so many things that happen in this life that can bring people together—or tear them apart. That said, I also believe the way we restore relationships is unique to each individual, because no one’s story is the same.

What I’d like to talk about is what I see in myself and the world—and how it relates to getting a facial (I promise it’s deeper than that!). To me, it seems like so many women are being pulled in so many directions: work, kids, friendships, romantic relationships, self-care… all the things. We’re expected to do it all, while being hit with so many contradicting beliefs. Be the boss babe, work hard and earn for yourself—but also be soft, gentle, and take care of everyone and everything around you. And whoa—that’s a lot.

I believe restoration happens when we are intentional. Whatever is happening in your life for whatever reason won’t change without making the intentional decision to change it.

And this is where a facial comes in. It gives you the opportunity to be intentional with yourself. To slow down, take care, and have ZERO expectations of yourself in that moment—with touch that is intentional, rejuvenating, and not demanding.
Because let’s also be honest with ourselves—we can lose the bond with ourselves so easily in this world, and that’s one of the most important relationships we have in this life.

All of this to say: I think it’s important to be intentional in the changes we want to see—whatever situation we’re in to restore everything in this life.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Not being perfect. Not doing everything perfectly.

Perfection: an unattainable goal that can be debilitating—and annoying.

I’ve always been the kind of person who does the research, spends time trying to figure it all out before taking action, and thinks about the what-ifs and possibilities. But that kind of thinking halts growth and holds you back like no other.

What I’ve come to learn—especially in this last year and a half of being a business owner—is that sometimes you just have to do it. Do it even if you don’t know. Do it scared. Do it when you aren’t ready. Do it with fear—because otherwise, you’ll never get anything done.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I was JUST talking to my boyfriend about this! About how so many people go to work and wear their “professional suits” (literally and figuratively), and then come home and become someone else entirely. I do believe both versions can be the “real” you—we all have different sides and roles we play in life.
When we were talking about this, I had a moment of realization: I’m pretty much me all the time—including at work and in public. And what a beautiful thing that is!

I get to be happy, excited, sometimes loud, quiet, creative, serious—all the things that make me me—in a space I’ve created for other people to do the same. The only thing he and I agreed on is that most of the time, the world sees less of my attitude because a girl gets hangry, lol.

This is something I’m so grateful for: a space to be me, and to welcome others to be them.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
YES! Not literally—but you know, almost! Of course, there are days that feel less than great, but most of the time I love my job—and that is a true blessing.

My mom asked me one day how my day was, and per usual, I said it was good and I had a great time with my clients, blah blah blah. Then she said something like, “I don’t think you ever have a bad day!”

Let me tell you—that is such an amazing feeling and realization to have.

There’s so much that excites me about my career, but mostly, it’s just that every day I get to go to a place I love, that I created, and that other people love too—a place where they feel at peace and can find rest. I am SO grateful!
