Nicki Hamrah shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Nicki, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Energy is most important to me because energy doesn’t lie. You could say you are in integrity with something but your energy could suggest otherwise. There could be a feeling you get from someone that just feels off. There are also some very intelligent individuals out there with multiple degrees who don’t have the best energy. They may not be fun to be around. I feel that if your energy is right from within, and you are at peace with yourself, you will naturally stand in integrity, have some level of intelligence, and people will be attracted to your energy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Yoga Instructor and a Breathwork Facilitator. The type of Breathwork that I lead is called Conscious Connected, it comes from the Rebirthing technique. I love this style of breath because it’s a gentle approach to releasing old energies or emotions that can create a very profound experience. The name of my company is Inhale with Intention. I chose this name because it describes the way we do the breath perfectly. It’s a very intentional inhale, and the exhale is more relaxed or a “letting go”. What I love most about Breathwork is the experiences can allow you to see outside of yourself, creating more self awareness. It can sometimes be more impactful than years of therapy.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I’ve always been very petite and as a child I heard everyone around me telling me things like….”you’re so small, you’re so little, you’re so tiny.” To me, I internalized those statements to mean that I wasn’t capable of doing big things. It kept me small. I have learned that is quite opposite from the truth. Physical size has nothing to do with the energy inside someone and what they are capable of accomplishing.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Avoiding things that I had told myself would be very hard has caused a lot of suffering for me. I had a lot of successes alongside avoiding some big things that I didn’t want to look at. Avoidance is one of the ways that we suffer. It wasn’t until I had the hard conversations and really stepped into the unknown of those things that I was avoiding did I see how much suffering it was causing me. And being on the other side of those hard things I have learned that they really weren’t as hard as the story I was telling myself.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I feel that sometimes extremely intelligent people rely so much on the books that they studied, the schools they went to, the degrees they earned that they forget to listen to their own intuition. Not everything is so black and white. Their gut might be trying to tell them something different but they ignore it because they are used to looking at facts. I feel using learned experience with intuition is the perfect combination.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace outside in nature. I’m definitely a beach person but even going to a park feels peaceful to me. Sunshine gives me life!
