An Inspired Chat with Nikki Serenity

Nikki Serenity shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nikki, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Most people see me working on my career and that’s about it. People don’t realize everything going on behind the scenes. I have a lot of struggles that the world doesn’t see and everything I’m doing to work on those things. It’s not easy and I get discouraged at times, but I’ve gone through worse so I know I’ve got this, and so do all of you!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nikki Serenity. I’m a model, influencer, actress, brand ambassador, etc. I put my own personality into my work, but I also do everything I can to give my clients what they’re looking for. I show honesty and integrity through everything I do. I grew up as an emo, emo kid, and a lot of what I put out has a bit of my emo flair in it. I’m also extremely versatile in the things I model and promote. As long as it doesn’t go against my beliefs, I’ll do it!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I struggled with major depression, anxiety, self hatred, self harm, etc. I thought I was fat, ugly, and stupid because I had so many people tell me I was. I have come so unbelievably far since then. My confidence and self esteem has skyrocketed and I no longer believe these things about myself. I now believe that I’m strong, loving, caring, hardworking, and so much more. It’s a beautiful thing to stop believing lies and to learn the truth about yourself!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
When I was younger I dealt with a lot of major depression, anxiety, self hatred, self harm, insecurity, etc. This all started around the age of 11. When I was 16 and 17 I went through a period of neglect, rejection, emotional abuse, and even homelessness for a time. The wounds from these parts of my life were so deep and I managed to find a lot of healing for them. I have used these horrible times to push me into periods of self improvement. I’ve also used these stories to capture opportunities like being on a reality show. People love a good shocking story! Now I can also use these to inspire people who are going through similar things. Even though I didn’t see a purpose at the time, good things came out of it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, and no. I am never fake and I don’t lie about who I am. There are some things I choose to put out there and some things I don’t. There are some things that only people closer to me get to know. There’s also a persona that people put on publicly that is kind of like acting even if it’s not fake. Different people get to see different sides of you, all of mine just to be real. Cady Groves said something in an interview about how she doesn’t want her parents to go to her show because she’s showing a different side of her than they might normally see at home. If you listen to what she said, she explained it perfectly.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope I’ll be able to get closer to God and people will remember me for my faith. I hope people will remember me as being strong, resilient, kind, caring, loving, hardworking, beautiful, unique, etc. But more importantly than how people remember me personally, I want to leave a lasting positive impact on the world. We can either leave the world better or worse than we found it, and I want to make it so much better.
