We’re looking forward to introducing you to Raye Cole Music. Check out our conversation below.
Raye, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that has been bringing me joy lately is setting aside time to play ” dress up”. I like making time to feel like a lady. Sometimes we let ourselves go without even realizing it. It is important for me to have that time to celebrate myself and to rejuvenate my mind, body, and spirit. I could use a pedicure and a massage.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello. My name is Rachell but I go by Raye Cole Music. That’s my stage name. I’m a singer- songwriter and entrepreneur. My current interests are writing and recording, art, technology, and fashion. I’m currently working on new music and trying to build a solid foundation for my other business endeavors.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
This current time and moment is showing me a lot of things. There’s so much going on with politics and agendas that we forget that there are people in need of help. Just the other day , I saw two teenagers sleep on the streets. Everyday, I see people holding signs asking for help. This time that we are in makes me reflect and be thankful for what I do have. This time is encouraging me to work harder so that I can be in a position to give back and be a blessing to those that may need help along the way.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was scared as a child there were three things that brought me comfort. My grandma. When she was there everything made sense. She made sure we were safe. Another thing that I’d do when I was afraid was sing church songs or pray… Lastly, I had a “security blanket.” It was actually a pillow slip. I’d sleep with it or hold onto to it when I needed to calm my nerves.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
A belief that I used to hold tightly but now not so much is ” trying to see the good ” in everyone. Good people are good people. Some people pretend to be but they can only fake for so long. Trying to see the good in the wrong people will drain you or have you becoming someone that you don’t want to be. It’s better to see someone for who they are and accept them or not… “When people show you who they are, believe them.”
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I’ve done what I set out to do. When I know that things are being taken care of. When I find time to celebrate life , whether it’s something big or small. I find peace in being able to help other people.
