We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sophie Axie Mae. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity. There is no greater character trait then someone who is the same person, with the same morals, no matter who they’re around. When it all boils down, having good character is all you’ve got. I cannot control what people’s perception of me is, but I can control my actions & by the grace of God, live a life of honesty & integrity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hiii – I’m Sophie. Lead photographer & owner of Sophie Axie Mae Photo. I’ve been joyfully photographing weddings & families since 2018. As far as my business & approach goes, I fancy myself your family historian. When I show up to your weddings, I’m far more concerned about who all is there, the memories that are being made, & candidly documenting your core memories then I am getting likes on my page or getting my work published in a bridal magazine. My hope & prayer is that my work is constantly pulled out when you’re telling stories around your kitchen table, talked about as you look at the pictures framed on your walls & covered with finger prints from pulling them out of your memory box. In honor of that nostalgia I so badly want to create for my clients, I shoot film photography alongside my digitals at all weddings. When you receive your gallery, I want to transport you back to the moment the photo was taken. Having a mixture of super sharp, clear images alongside something a little grittier & playful does exactly that for me.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. Both are extremely honest, hard working, creative people. My siblings & I were encouraged to strive for excellence & be the hardest workers in the room. “Work as if you’re working for the Lord” – not as a get rich quick scheme but as a “it doesn’t matter who see’s what you’re doing, God does” situation. It’s served us well.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That God’s power is made perfect in my weakness. I wouldn’t know & trust God like I do now if it had not been for suffering. I’m grateful for his faithfulness to lead me through difficulty, both in work & in my personal life, as I know & love Him more than I ever had prior.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
unequivocally yes
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My faith! Praise the Lord.
