Andrea Moore’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Andrea Moore and have shared our conversation below.

Andrea, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Being a sports mom! Really, being a mom in general, but we are in the midst of football season, which is always a really fun time for our family. Football really comes with a sense of community, and our family loves the bonds we are able to make with the other football players families. It is a lot of work but we love being part of it all.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the owner of Love to the Moon Photography located in Hillsboro, Missouri. I moved out of Southern California 4 years ago. I have been a photographer for 15 years now and most recently in September I opened a commercial space for my studio after working on location or from a home studio for so long. I provide luxury photo sessions. I plan the details, hire a hair and makeup artist, provide the scene, and really provide my clients with a very memorable and luxury experience. I specialize in Boudoir, Motherhood, and Branding

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad. My dad was the breadwinner for our family growing up so my mom could stay home to raise us. I saw the hustle, and I saw the imoportance of that structure. When I got married and had children, I knew I wanted some of both of those things, and was determined to create a career and a life where I could help my husband in providing for our family while also ensuring I would not miss any important moments in my childrens lives like my mom didnt have to.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
2 years ago, on my birthday, I had a miscarriage. I did not share that publicly but my family and a few close friends knew about it. I was devestated, and my sister was expecting just weeks apart from me. For a while there I didnt know what to do with my time, when my husband was at work and my kids were at school. I knew I had to be strong for my kids, and for myself. I decided to take my negative energy and work towards something postive. I told myself that since I would not be raising a baby like I thought I would, I was going to put all of my energy into propelling my business to the next level, I wanted to be there for clients important moments, be there for my boudoir clients who need pick me ups since those sessions allow me to often help them come out of a dark place, and create a legacy. I wanted to ensure my business became something that not only benefited me and my needs but so many others. In turn it ended up being the most successful part of my career so far and I am still pushing for more.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I do not have the time to pretend I am someone that I am not. I also want to attract friends, clients etc who want to be part of my circle for who I am, not who they think I am.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My clients would miss the experience I provide for them. I truly take the time to get to know my clients. I actually had a client at her image reveal two days ago tell me how she was telling her friends about her session and talking to them about sessions they did elsewhere before, and she said she told them how comfortable she was with me during her session and how prepared she felt, and her friends basically told her how when they had theirs done the photographer scheduled them and told them when and where to show up and there was not any planning or follow up like I provided. I know my clients who are typically nervous about being infront of the camera would truly miss the well rounded planning and experience that I provide them if I were to reitre tomorrow.
