We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think that others struggle with being their true self. Social has made everything based off “ aesthetics”, everyone wants to be like someone else. Everyone is dressing the same, same hobbies, same pictures, same personality. I believe people are scared of what others will think if they be themselves. You can be anyone you want behind a social media handle.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Calin, I am the owner of Dseven Tresses LLC. I am a licensed cosmetologist that specializes in extensions & healthy hair care. I have a small salon with my business partner/ sister & we have two tenants.
I create & sell my own hair growth oil, perfect for ladies & males!
What makes me unique is the love & passion I put into my craft. I am a stylist that loves to satisfy her clients. I will work with my clients to ensure they are in love with their hair & overall service. I am extremely professional & well educated in my field.
I started as a Braider when I was about 9 years old. I had a brand named “Cali braids” until I was a freshman in highschool & decided I wanted to tap into hairstyles. I rebranded into “Calihair LLC” & I received my cosmetology license in 2019. I was able to obtain my license while still in high school so I graduated in May of 2019 & sat for my State Board exam in June of 2019. I decided to pursue my education & I went to the illustrious Tennessee State University and received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing. I am proud of my journey & extremely satisfied with how I grew my business. What makes all of this even more exciting is, I am no where near done yet!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom is someone who saw me clearly before I could see myself. I have an amazing relationship with my mom, it makes me emotional just talking about her. She can see when something is wrong with me before I could tell her.
She is someone who believes in every dream I have & when I am doubtful she reminds me of who I am & all I can/ have accomplished. She never belittles me or my dreams. She lets me know how I motivate her with my Stick-to-itiveness & my drive to not stop until I have accomplished my goals.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that has held me back is the opinion of others. As I’ve gotten older, I have learned that I am a “people pleaser”. I want to make everyone happy. I had to learn that I can’t please everyone & that is okay! As a business owner & hairstylist their will be moments were clients are not happy. As long as I remain professional & try my hardest, I have did my part. When I started selling the hair growth oil, I was afraid of getting negative reviews. This fear has held me back from so many other goals I want to accomplish, but now I can proudly say that is no longer a fear of mine.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
This biggest lies my industry tells itself is we have to “grind” or be in “grind mode” to be successful. We actually have to prioritize our physical & mental health to avoid being burnt out or overworked. Sustained performance requires rest & balance. You can not give your clients the best if you are not at your best.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow I think my clients will miss everything about me.
My professional service, my aura, the calmness & peace I have inside my suite & overall, me. I build bonds with a lot of my clients. About 75% of my clientele are returning clients. I have become someone they can trust & rely on. I create a safe haven for my clients. We are a family.
