Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Price.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Virginia and moved to St Louis around 2010. I was blessed to have artistic abilities naturally. Both my parents were creative. My dad was a wood craftsman, and my mom had many artist talents.
I was not a formally trained artist. I took my first art classes when I was in college, aside from elementary school art classes.
After college, I did a lot of fine art work with acrylic paintings, mixed media, and showed my works in a few galleries around the St. Louis and Franklin County areas.
I explored different mediums through out the years, like photography, sculpture, and graphic design.
Because I had an artistic reputation with my friends and associates, I was often asked for creative favors. One favor was to face paint at a friend’s family reunion in 2022. That favor turned in to a passion and I fell in love with face painting. I started booking birthday parties and events like festivals. I did my research and learned as much as I could to be a better face painter. I still learn something new everyday and continued to improve my skills, my materials, and my equipment.
Face painting led me to window painting and mural work.
I have now completed full wall murals for different schools and a variety of windows for local businesses and have been face painting for a few years now.
I do my best to incorporate art into almost everything I do. I have a passion for creating happiness through art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A struggle for me, was time and finding it. When you have to work a “normal” job to fund your passion, it’s hard to find the time to work on art. I would tend to neglect my daily responsibilities like dishes and laundry, to make art instead.
Self doubt was a struggle. I had to find the confidence in myself to apply for art shows and put myself out there. I had to believe in myself and believe that I could make things happen. And not take rejection personally.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a painter, through and through. I paint canvas, faces and bodies, windows, murals, asphalt, and anything else that you can lay paint on.
I’d say I’m most popular for face painting. I incorporate sculpture in to my face painting designs by hand making accessories, like unicorn horns and gem clusters to accentuate the designs. That’s one of the things that sets me apart.
Anytime I get asked to paint a mural or business window, I am awe stricken with the faith people have in me. I’m honored that people trust my skill and vision to make their space a little more colorful. Anytime I’m invited to tend a child’s birthday or someone’s special event, I’m extremely flattered that I was thought of to make their day more special.
Im most proud of creating positivity and happiness with art. The happiness that a person expresses when you show them their face, is unmatched.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t quit! And don’t stop creating. “Success” looks different to all of us and none of those results are overnight.
Try not to close yourself off to new mediums and requests. You never know where that next “yes” is going to take you. Doors open when you follow your heart and passions.
Make the time to peruse what you love, it’ll only lead you to happiness.
