Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin & Dom Corvington.
Hi Caitlin & Dom, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When Caitlin was pregnant with their now toddler, the only thing that helped with her nausea was Diet Coke. Before then she hadn’t drank a soda in years, but that began the start of her daily guilty pleasure. Then last fall our family took a trip out west & we had the opportunity to try a dirty soda for the first time. We immediately knew it was something we would want again in the future. After returning back to St. Louis we couldn’t find anything like it in the area and that got our wheels turning. Fast forward a few months to this spring, we saw a video on social media of someone who had started a dirty soda in another state & she was encouraging others to do the same. We thought heck why not? The next day we were all in. We had our first event on June 14th at a local farmers market and we have grown quicker than we ever thought imaginable. You can now find us at a farmers market or event around the St. Louis area every weekend.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our biggest struggle thus far has been the work/life balance. We both still have our 9-5 jobs and our weekends used to be our time to spend with our daughter. Now we don’t have that free time available anymore, so being more intentional with our time with her and not being afraid to ask for help from friends and family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Crispy Sips was created around the idea of a dirty soda. Dirty sodas are a non-alcoholic, typically carbonated beverage with flavoring syrup, cream, and other mix-ins added. In addition to our dirty soda we also offer dirty coffee as well as dirty energy drinks.
A few things that set us apart are that we offer a “Sip of the Week” which is a special new beverage we offer on the menu each week to align with certain themes, events, and holidays. For Fourth of July we had a red, white, and blue dirty soda with a huge candy kabob on top. For a peach festival we had a “Peach Please” which was a peaches & cream dirty soda with a peach ring topper. Also, we try to utilize local sodas or partner with local businesses as much as possible. Lastly, we offer what we call a “candy crown” which is just a bowl of candy to top your drink. It is a lot of fun & turns your drink into a picture-worthy beverage.
The thing we are most proud of is the community we have built in such a short time. We have customers travel long distances just to try our drinks and we have a group of regulars we love to see every week (or some multiple times!). We can’t wait to continue to grow our community & introduce dirty sodas to more and more people in the St. Louis area.
What are your plans for the future?
Our biggest step for the future would be finding a physical location. We are currently on the hunt, but we know what we want & we haven’t exactly found it yet. Our absolute dream would be to have a drive-thru. Since having our toddler, we understand that getting out of the car for a soda is not always the most fun or feasible thing to do. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a dirty soda without it having to be a scheduled event each time you get one. We don’t know if that is going to be possible at our first location, but we are doing everything in our power to make it happen.
