Check Out Denise Hopkins Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Hopkins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I came from a very simple upbringing and modest childhood with incredibly supportive parents. They always – always showed up… for everything!

My parents were not entrepreneurs so I’m not completely sure where that spirit came from, but it was clear at an early age, that I wanted to spread my wings and do exciting things in my life and I loved setting goals and meeting or exceeding them. I knew I had support from my family no matter what I decided to do, they always believed in me!

I started my work life in the corporate world, however, I soon realized that working in that environment wasn’t where I ultimately wanted to be. It didn’t fulfill my insatiable drive to start and grow my own company on my own terms.

When I started a family, I had a need to start my own business, not just a side business like I had always done before but start a new career where I could have the time to still put my family first and also satisfy my entrepreneurial spirit. This transition led me into an amazing creative industry and my creative production company, RepHeads, represents creativity!

Within a few years, my company had taken off and I had more opportunities than I could have imagined. I started and grew a film and print-based production company representing incredible creative talent from Coast to Coast which created an additional opportunity where I was contracted as a studio director. These two positions had great synergy and flowed perfectly together for a long time.

My kids immersed themselves in the studio, the creatives, and my career. I was able to present opportunities they could test out and ultimately they ended up loving different avenues they were able to explore through this journey. Each has started and grown their own businesses as a result.

I thrive on connecting people to people and people to positions. I love to mentor, open doors, and help build the careers of others who aren’t really sure what they want to do and what path they want to take.

Opening up someone’s eyes to new possibilities they never knew existed and empowering them is one of the most gratifying things in the world to me. Although this is not my primary role, it remains something I thoroughly enjoy doing.

I’ve continued my reach into new business opportunities and have successfully been growing a real estate career along with doing renovations, designing the interiors of the properties, and most recently will be starting on a new build project. In my view, the possibilities are endless!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road but the bumps along the way made me who I am today and I’m stronger because of it. The “bumps” showed me the kind of person and mentor I did NOT want to be as much as they showed me the person/mentor I did want to be.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I founded RepHeads in 2002 and it originated as a photographer’s only rep agency. Since then it has grown into so much more.

We have helped guide and manage the careers of videographers, photographers, food stylists, set designers, hair & make-up artists, prop stylists and fashion stylists, producers, web artists, and animators/motion designers (to name a few) through strategic marketing and networking in all forms. We offer full-service production teams, casting, and location scouting as well.

We are a collection of highly-skilled individuals who believe in ourselves and believe that our passion and creativity are enhanced by the energy of our united efforts.

We believe that vision creates the journey in both lives and in our work and that the power of teamwork and strong relationships are the key to continued growth in the industry today. This innovative spirit inspires us to approach each day with a thoroughly modern and fresh perspective.

Our goal is simply to provide each of our creatives with a career custom-tailored to their particular strengths and goals. From photography to the world of food art to the amazing stylists who breathe personality into the shots, we are continually inspired by these incredible people each and every day.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
This industry has seen so many shifts, especially over the last few years. I definitely believe there will be a continual shift and constantly changing trends along with the technology which is every changing.

We need to embrace change if we want to stay relevant and we need to continue to appreciate the twists and turns along the way and know they usually bring us to a better place in the industry or in our career overall.
