Today we’d like to introduce you to Desi & Hannah Sterling
Hi Desi & Hannah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Desi moved to St. Louis in 2020, not knowing she’d fall in love with the city and find the love of her life. Moving from Louisiana, I wanted something with culture and great people and I found that here. I work in technology but had been creating content for companies as a side job.
Hannah moved in 2020 to St. Louis to get trauma nursing experience. We met in late 2020 and started dating to find ourselves married in 2023.
When it came to our story, we started sharing our trips and making fun little videos online, in addition to appearing in ads together and being the voice of a lot of youth struggling with sexuality. We both wanted to let those struggling know that you will be ok. We started full time content creating at the end of 2023 and have been growing dramatically ever since. We have opened through social media sharing our story and our difficulties connecting with people of all kinds to culture a safe space. As we entered our fertility journey, we continued to share with individuals to bridge a gap to connect all humans.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some struggles. Juggling our full time jobs with content creation was not easy at first, but we knew we had to continue trying to get our story out to foster a safe place for people. Hannah had to come out to her family who was very religious, which was a large obstacle. We receive some of the most heartfelt messages, but also some that aren’t the nicest. Learning to navigate and not let those things get to you has been a learning curve for both of us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a nurse and technology developer turned into a content creation through social media. We are known for our travels and representation of the LGBTQ community. We share travel tips for those that may not understand laws and regulations in other countries, give local tips, and of course recently do sit down talks on YouTube to share our story as lesbians growing up in the south and in a very strong religion. Opening up about the struggles that you faced while going through this can help the kids or young adults and sometimes even older adults understand that who you are is OK and you’re going to find a place in the world even when you feel like there is not going to be a great resolution. We both worked with children in elementary and middle school to ensure that they have a safe haven place to go to and an adult to speak to. They can help them navigate through social media, the world, and other aspects, such as bullying.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
When it comes to risks, we have learned that we really do like a comfort zone, especially after Covid. Both of us knew that in order for us to grow in a content creation, we had to thicken our skins because not everyone is going to love you. One of the largest risks for Hannah was coming out to her entire family and community when she knew that her family was very involved in a church and did not share the same beliefs. Knowing that the outcome with her family may not be positive for now, the greater outcome for the future was going to be better than anything that she was going to deal with for the next few months. For both of us, we put our story out there, hoping that it will change something for the better which is a huge risk because not everyone feels the same way and you don’t know the reaction that some people are going to have by learning this about you.
