Check Out Jennifer Yang’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Yang.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I traveled with my family both within the United States and internationally. My love for food began during this time, as I was fortunate enough to try all these amazing cuisines from a young age. Even before social media, I LOVED taking pictures to capture memories. Initially, I posted pictures of my vacations and food on Facebook to share my memories. Fast forward a few years later, I began writing Yelp reviews to recommend the best food spots. In April 2019, I was accepted into the Yelp Elite squad! As a result of covid restrictions, I decided to take the opportunity to help small businesses. To further expand my audience, I decided to create an Instagram page (IG: @jeyang.foodfunadventures). So over these past two years, I have been working with various mom and pop restaurants to promote their business and increase their carry out sales during these trying times. Within my posts, you will always find a picture of me with the owner and/or chef and often me holding the food and drinks in front of the restaurant, which is my signature trademark.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, I got fairly lucky by meeting and becoming friends with other large Foodie Influencers early on. In the beginning, I got invited to other Foodie Influencer events. My naturally outgoing personality allowed me to connect with many people quickly. As I learned the ropes, I started to host my own events and giveaways (Follow my Instagram page and be on the lookout)! Currently, I either attend or host foodie events regularly by collaborating with various local restaurants.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Michigan and am now a graduate student working towards my Master’s degree.

What makes you happy?
I derive pleasure from meeting new people and trying out new restaurants whether it’s in St. Louis or in the Metro Detroit area. I have a passion for travel because it gives me the opportunity to explore new places and immerse myself in the culture of a city, both for the nature aspects and the food scene. I love meeting restaurant owners and/or chefs and getting to know their story about why they started their restaurant, and how they got to where they are today. Forming that personable connection, I’ve been able to experience many unique opportunities. Such as serving as a brand ambassador for small businesses, helping the Consul of Italy promote events on social media and collaboration with a travel website for all the hidden food gems in the city.
