Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Walsh
Hi Jim , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came up with the idea for Sports Snax as a wrestling coach at Vianney High School. Our wrestler’s parents show a tremendous level of involvement by chipping in to buy snacks for the team to eat after weigh-ins and throughout the matches and tournaments. That’s when it occurred to me how many parents are on some sort of snack duty for all the activities their children are involved in, which adds to the never ending amount of time and responsibility they have as a parent. So why not find a way to help them save time with the convenience of being able to go online to a store dedicated to focusing on healthy eating for athletes on their competition days and have it shipped to them directly.
I’ve consulted with a personal trainer and nutrition expert on items that are light, healthy but also taste good while still providing all the necessary nutrition your athlete needs to continue performing at peak levels. My goal isn’t just to save them time from walking the aisles at the grocery store but also to reduce time spent researching on what they should provide for their kids.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth road? of course not 🙂
It has been a great learning experience though. Through my first orders, I learned the hard way about finding the best shipping avenues for my customers.
Another speed bump has been the taste of some items. As an adult, we can get ourselves to eat something that doesn’t taste the best but we do it because we know it is good for us. However, that isn’t always the case for us when we’re younger. Luckily, I get help from the guys on my team to test out some items
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I work as an Account Manager for a local marketing company but I have found my passion has always been in the wrestling room helping grow the young men on our team. I am grateful to be able to be in the room and helping them develop. Through this is how I started this company and hoping I can help improve athletes all over.
How do you define success?
My definition of success isn’t going to come from the number of orders I am getting but from any responses I get from my customers. I would love to hear feedback one day from any parent or coach saying they’ve seen an improvement in performance by eating properly for competitions. My offerings are primarily for game-day but long-term I would love to see the kids are learning how important of a role nutrition plays into performance before, during, and after any physical activity
