Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Reifschneider.
Hi Jordan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little kid, I was drawn to art and being creative. My dad gifted me my very first camera. Pentax K 1000 film camera. I used black & white film to capture images. I actually still have the camera but I don’t really use it anymore. It’s just a great memory to have from my childhood.
My current photography business started 4 months ago when I was laid off from my job. I had several interviews but none of them sat right with me. I always envisioned myself owning a business and helping people. In this case, I’m able to capture moments in life for people that will last a lifetime.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy if you want to achieve your dreams. At first, I questioned myself if I wanted to take the leap or stay status quo. After my wife encouraged me to just follow my dreams, I bought the camera I had my eye on and started booking photo sessions. There will always be struggles and obstacles but I wouldn’t be growing if it were easy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love taking photos of landscapes and sunsets. Sunsets always catch my eye because they’re never the same. However, I’m known for taking family and engagement photos. I love to capture the unposed interactions between the clients, so I can capture the chemistry they have in the photo. There’s nothing worse than a forced smile so I really have to say really ridiculous things to make them laugh.
I’m really proud of the confidence that I’ve gained since starting this journey. It’s amazing to see how much progress I’ve made in my work. I know I will always learn something new and I will continue to get better with each session. There’s nothing more rewarding than to see how happy people are after they receive their photos. That’s priceless to me.
I thoroughly enjoy taking photos of people. I like to make a connection with each client beforehand so when I take their photos they’re more comfortable and relaxed. I really want everyone to have a good experience because these are moments that they won’t be able to get back.
I want to give back to the community so I offer “pay what you can” End Of Life Pet Photography sessions. This was inspired by the TikToker Lauren Kennedy, I want to continue what she started. Vet bills add up and it’s heartbreaking to lose a pet. These sessions definitely help families and I’m here for that.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Everything takes time. I had to learn to be patient and not rush. I knew I needed to learn every setting on my camera in manual before I could ever start booking a session. Lighting and settings are everything. Beautiful art takes time.
