Today we’d like to introduce you to Kesha Kent.
Hi Kesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had the gift of encouraging and motivating others, it’s a gift! One of my top strengths is the ability to include all those around me. It’s so easy for me to connect with people from all walks of life! My grandma, my mother and my aunt always joked that as a kid, I’d get away from my mother while we were out shopping and I’d talk to those around me. I’ve never met a stranger.
In 2003, as a student at Judson University, I discovered one of my greatest strengths was WOO, winning others over! Back then I took the Clifton Strengths Finder Assessment and the results were game changing for me! It was like everything made complete sense now! My ability to connect and fit in anywhere, all my previous sales and recruiting roles were a perfect fit, right! The gift of connecting was so easy for me! The assessment confirmed it all!
As I think back, in 2003, I attended Judson University as an adult learner. This was where so many of my goals and dreams were born! In that program the majority of us were parents and full time employees, with one goal in mind! We all wanted to complete our bachelors degree in Management and Leadership. I discovered my love for connecting to different cultures, foods, clothing and because of curiosity, I leaned in!
My gift of networking and building relationships was birthed in those times. I knew that the possibility of meeting new people and building those fueled me! My faith was reignited, I’ve been sharing God’s love ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has definitely not been smooth sailing! I’ve faced many obstacles that tried to keep me from my calling and using my voice. At thirteen, I experienced physical abuse/molestation by my stepfather. I didn’t tell my mother until I was an adult! Telling her was part of my healing process! This caused me to shrink back, I held that pain in for over twenty years! It was part of a trait I’ve uprooted-PEOPLE pleasing! I’ve shut it off!
I was later abused by a boy at sixteen who I was dating, he physically attacked me on several occasions leaving me with a black eye on the last occasion. My school administrators intervened. Having the school as a SAFE PLACE changed my life. I had amazing teachers that helped me get my grades back on track and also helped me enroll in summer classes to catch up! I graduated early and my life was forever changed! I knew then nothing could stop me! I wanted more and I decided to pursue higher education after meeting amazing counselors at Elgin Community College.
Having my first child at 19, after graduating high school was another struggle that I used to fuel me in all my endeavors. During the next 15 years, there was a pulling and tugging at being my authentic self. I’ve fought hard to uncover all my Keshaness and daily I do the work to allow my power through healing and releasing others who’ve harmed me along my journey!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
