Check Out Lindsay Murray’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Murray.

Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved doing hair. Even as a little girl. I was the one braiding my friends’ hair and experimenting with styles. After high school, I tried college, but it just wasn’t for me. My real passion was all things HAIR! After having my son in 2009, I attended The Salon Professional Academy and never looked back.

Not long after, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and had to adopt a strict gluten free diet. I worked in a salon for years, but over time, I realized that hidden gluten in hair products was making me sick. (gluten is in EVERYTHING!) Eventually, it got so bad that I had to quit. Things took a serious turn when I was hospitalized for over two months due to exposure to gluten had triggered POTS, neuropathy, nonepileptic seizures, and even temporary paralysis.

Despite those challenges, I wasn’t ready to give up on my career. I opened a salon loft and ran a thriving wedding business. Then, by chance, I reconnected with a stylist I had known years prior who worked at a gluten free salon. He encouraged me to interview, and I got the job at Lalo Salon. That was nearly four years ago, and today, I’m not only a stylist there, but also an educator and part of the leadership team.

Looking back, I feel so blessed. My journey wasn’t easy, but it led me exactly where I’m meant to be. I’m doing what I love in a space that supports my health and passion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This was a hard one for me. I don’t view them as struggles, but just hiccups along the way.

Keeping up with trending products is a must in this industry, but for me, it’s not just about what’s new, it’s about making sure everything I use is 100% gluten free. One wrong product could mean a week full of fatigue, brain fog, weakness, and intense stomach issues.

Traveling for fashion shows has been an incredible experience. I’ve had the honor of doing hair for both New York and Paris Fashion Week. But it comes with its own set of hiccups. Many shows have product sponsors, and I have to ensure that every product I use is safe for me. That means doing my research, asking the right questions, and sometimes even bringing my own products just to be safe.

Beyond product concerns, I have to constantly be aware of my body position while working. Locking my knees for too long or standing in one place can trigger fainting episodes due to POTS. I also deal with extreme fatigue, which makes long days behind the chair even more demanding. Some days, I push through exhaustion just to do what I love.

Despite these hiccups, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every challenge has taught me resilience, adaptability, and a deeper appreciation for the career I’ve built. I’m grateful to be in a salon that supports my health while allowing me to thrive as a stylist, educator, and leader.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in blonding and color correction. That’s my jam. I really love using my brain to figure out the perfect color formula, especially when there’s a tricky situation to fix. It’s like solving a fun puzzle. My favorite part is helping my guests bring their hair dreams to life. I’m all about creating a look that makes them feel amazing. What sets me apart is the care and thought I put into every color… I don’t just slap it on and hope for the best. I really take the time to make sure it’s exactly what they’re hoping for.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Do whatever makes you happy. I wish I did sooner in life. Find your craft. Something that lights you up. It’s the best feeling to do what you love for a living and actually get paid for it. It’s not always easy, but it’s so worth it. There’s nothing more rewarding than waking up excited to go to work.
