Check Out Nicole Burgio’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Burgio.

Hi Nicole, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
On June 14th, 2021, I drove to the Uhaul Storage and Rental Store and picked up my rental truck, terrified on the inside but calm on the outside. I was picking up a big box truck, and I am not good at driving trucks. The biggest reason I was terrified was that I was driving out to Wright City, Missouri, where I had lived for the last 5 years with my son Joel 5 years old, Hunter, two years old, and my ex-boyfriend Josh who was father of our sons. A few weeks before, I had taken our son and stayed at my parents’ house for a few weeks until the townhouse I had secretly rented would be available. I called the Wright City Police Department when I got close to the house and asked the dispatcher if a police officer could meet me at the home because I was going to pick up my belongings from my ex, who is abusive. I was with Josh for 22 years. We met when I was 14 years old, and yes, we had our ups and downs, but things weren’t always bad. However, in 2016 after Joel was born, things. It turned for the worst, and the physical and emotional abuse was so bad I couldn’t handle it any longer. With God’s strength, I could leave and stay gone this time. I was excited and proud of myself. I was living on my own for the first time in my life, raising young boys and kicking butt. After settling in, I worked from home as Account Representative for a Medical Billing company. I have had this position for 11 years now. When it came time for the bills to get paid, I started to get terrible anxiety. How am I supposed to pay all these bills? I then remembered a friend who was also a single mother who signed up on Care.com for house cleaning. So, I signed up on Care.com, got one client, then another, and before I knew it, I worked from sunrise to night 7 days a week. Cleaning became my way of therapy and pushing all emotions down and away. One day in March, talking to my mother on the phone, she said your boys are acting out because they want their mother’s attention. All you do is work. So, in April 2022, I took a very scary and exciting path. I resigned from my 12-year position as an account representative and opened my own cleaning company. With no business background or any idea what I was doing, I spoke with friends that owned their businesses, and I did research. I have always wanted to be a boss, a business owner, and a powerful independent woman. Today, I own Mom With a Mop Cleaning Service, LLC.

I do all my marketing, payroll, and taxes and am the only full-time employee. I was diagnosed with depression. Anxiety and PTSD, but I don’t let that get the best of me. My pride, determination, drive, and the hustler inside me refused to quit or give up. Don’t get me wrong, I sometimes feel like I can’t do it, but then I think about my sons, what I would tell them, and what I have lived by for years. Rocky said this is a little saying: “it’s not about how hard you can hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; that’s how winning is done.” No matter what life throws at me, I will get up and fight back. I hope to inspire and work with other women and men in a domestic violence situation to leave that environment and start living for themselves and not under the control of someone else. While I may be a small company today, one day, you might see Mom With a Mop Cleaning Service cars driving around with other survivors working, and we can all change each other and the lives of our clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had some bumps along the way and still have some today. I have had to learn from my mistakes without a business or professional cleaning background. One of my biggest struggles has been what and how to charge my clients. I can’t imagine charging my clients the outrageous fees that some of the bigger companies charge, but I also have to charge enough to make my company grow and pay myself as an employee. I have researched and spoken with a few other smaller cleaning companies, but it still needs to be solved. I am still in the learning phase of the business side of things.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mom With a Mop Cleaning Service, LLC is more than your average cleaning service. It’s modern-day cleaning with the industry’s best science, training, and tools. When I receive the first call, email, or text from a potential client, I consider and treat them as I would my family and close friends. I try to get to know them and vice versa. I want every client to understand their home, business, or family and friends’ property is in the best hands. Every employee undergoes extensive background checks and drug tests regularly to ensure our client’s safety, loved ones, and property. I have heard over and over again from clients that other cleaning companies charge extra for every little thing possible and don’t even pick up a picture frame to dust under it. We specialize in listening to each client’s needs and working to exceed that client’s expectations. We offer residential, commercial, move-in, move-out, long-term, short-term, post-construction, seasonal, and holiday—sports, medical, and janitorial pre and post-event cleaning. Depending on the client’s needs, those can be done daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or seasonal. One of my favorite things to do is that we offer to declutter and organize services.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
I am always looking for new clients to service. You can support us by getting our name out there so we can grow our clients and grow the business. If anyone out there would also like to invest in the company or become a business partner, I would be interested in partnering with them. Anyone also interested in getting together to network would be great too.
