Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Wachowe.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Photography has been a constant thread throughout my life. From a young age, I’ve been an observer, drawn to the beautiful stories and details unfolding in front of me. In my own home, a gallery wall of my ancestors serves as a daily reminder of how photographs connect us to our heritage and allow memories to transcend generations.
That appreciation deepened when I became a mother. Capturing my children as they experienced a moment didn’t just create art; it grounded me in the present and allowed me to see the world through their eyes.
I had always dreamed of becoming a “real photographer,” but mastering the manual side of a professional camera felt just out of reach. As a neurodivergent person with ADHD, traditional learning methods don’t always click for me. The breakthrough came when a patient friend and fellow photographer finally taught me in a way my brain could grasp. Suddenly, everything took off.
With this newfound confidence, I felt a clear calling to open my business, focusing on portraits that capture genuine emotion and connection. Drawing on my degree in early childhood education, this felt like the most natural path in the world.
As a mother, I am especially drawn to the profound bond between a mother and her children. My ultimate mission is to create portraits where mothers feel deeply seen, celebrated, and beautiful in their journey. It’s the part of this work I identify with most.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My life has not always been smooth school and the education system was so hard for me. Navigating the world as a neurodivergent person with ADHD has been a journey of contrasts, but I’ve come to see that my unique wiring is both a hurdle and a gift.
It allows me to see art and people with profound depth. I feel everything and connect with others on a deeply personal level. This unique lens is the heart of my photography, enabling me to see unconventional beauty everywhere.
Of course, it isn’t always easy. The hurdle is that it can take longer for me to process and remember things, requiring me to work harder than most. However, this struggle has gifted me a deep well of empathy, especially for those in front of my camera who may feel uncomfortable or happen to be neurodivergent themselves.
My path hasn’t been linear, but it has taught me the true meaning of grit and tenacity—the quiet strength of forging your own path, on your own timeline.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer and artist who runs my own business Sunday Lane Photography. I specialize in family portraits; early childhood and Motherhood.
My background in early childhood education has deeply shaped my approach to photography. It gives me the patience and understanding to move beyond traditional, posed portraits where everyone is looking at the camera.
Instead, I focus on capturing the genuine connections and unscripted moments that define a family’s unique story. My goal is to create art that reflects the authentic beauty of the children, mothers, and families I work with.
Ultimately, my passion is to distill the essence and magic of childhood—and the profound connection between parents and their children—into timeless photographs. I believe the experience of creating these images should be as joyful as the final product, so I strive to make every session a happy memory in the making.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

You.
