Check Out Rozalyn LeCompte’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rozalyn LeCompte.

Rozalyn LeCompte

Hi Rozalyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in South Louisiana, the daughter of musicians, the oldest of five girls. Vibrant chaos was my norm.
Since I can remember, art has always been a necessary refuge.
Early motherhood kept me grounded , art school plans changed to massage collage and
art became my constant side hustle.
I found success weaving my love of music and fashion, by upcycling drum cymbals into accessories,
working with clients like Queen, Bon Jovi, and Genesis.
I have recently stepped away from the brand I built, and am solely focusing on visual art once again.
In just a couple of years, I have participated in multiple exhibits, a life altering residency,
and been featured in British Vogue and Country Roads Magazines.
As I pave my new path, creating art remains my daily refuge.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If life were a smooth road, art would be boring, so I’m grateful for all the challenges I’ve encountered. Juggling the multi-faceted demands of being a one person show in modern society can be exhausting,
but I always hope to possess a DIY undercurrent and rawness, no matter the road conditions.
I always thought that not being able to attend art school was to my detriment,
but there is a constant sense of wonder I am able to tap into when creating
because I’m discovering new techniques all the time.. mysteries are essential to freedom.
I never paint myself into any boxes, which challenges monetization, but that has never been the fuel for me.
Creating is medicinal, if others enjoy it too, then it’s a win/win.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Painting is my first love. I am naturally drawn to bright colors and movement. I am constantly exploring modalities and subject matter as I move through life.
Lately the history of my home land, Acadiana, is a rich source of inspiration,
that transfers into abstract folk art.
The idea of chaos and order have been at the core of most all pieces for some time,
as I process grief and use art as my coping mechanism.
Being completely substance free for five years has tremendously enhanced my art and life.
I recently completed a three month residency focusing on the subject of silencing.
The community involvement and reaction was overwhelming and satisfied my longing to combine
the Healing Arts world with Visual Arts. I plan to create an online forum and podcast with my partner
of Femme Unmuted, Andrea Villien.
I am also currently creating a Lenormand Tarot Deck that will soon be available on my site.
I am not content unless I have multiple projects happening at all times.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Getting quiet enough to hear and feel what’s happening beneath the surface is essential. Staying true to that voice and wherever that is leading me, is the most important quest.
Creating for myself first and loving what I make has always been the goal.
It has become part of my daily self-care regiment.
