Today we’d like to introduce you to Syd Strickland.
Hi Syd, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started creating music in high school back in 2009. After years of tinkering with production and recording, I decided to sell my recordings, instrumentals, and merchandise online via globally recognized digital platforms. IM$YD now has listeners in 78 countries, and the number is growing each day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth! Trying to attain a national/international following is very difficult and requires dedication, strength and courage to fail and try again. Also, when you’re a local artist without a major label, there’s no support system. All the behind the scenes moves and placements are all on the artist rather than a machine of hands of minds doing it for you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am actually a hip hop artist and producer. I make beats with my computer and I write raps to those melodies. I also create my merchandise (Stickers, keychains, shirts, etc.) I am most proud of my music! The growth from my first project to my current project is exponential! I would say my beat selection, concepts, overall style and flow sets me apart from the others. I try to be as individualistic as possible when creating.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To be thorough and never afraid to fail. So many people are afraid to and it keeps them from trying or from fully trying. I learned to always believe in what I’m doing. I know this is what I am supposed to be doing. The “three feet from gold” concept keeps me in constant pursuit of my passions.
