Community Highlights: Meet Desiree & Meagan Drury & Schulte of Something Blue Planning + Coordinating

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree & Meagan Drury & Schulte.

Hi Desiree & Meagan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, we’re Meagan and Desiree — the mother-daughter duo behind Something Blue Planning + Coordinating, based in O’Fallon, Missouri and serving couples across the St. Louis metro area, the Illinois Metro East, and beyond.

We started this business because we’ve always loved helping friends bring their wedding dreams to life — and after seven years of planning for others, we decided it was time to make it official in 2022. Our approach is simple: your wedding, your vision — we’re just here to make it run flawlessly.

From creative ideas and timeline planning to vendor management, setup, décor, and tear-down, we handle the behind-the-scenes so you can stay present and stress-free. Our most-loved Forever package gives couples ongoing support throughout the planning process — perfect if you want help and guidance without giving up creative control. Whether you just need help making sure your hard work goes according to plan on your big day with our Keep It Simple day-of coordination package, or you’d like us to take on every little detail with our Ever After full-service planning package, we’ll make sure your wedding vision is brought beautifully to life.

Each of our couples works one-on-one with their dedicated coordinator — someone who gets to know your vision, your vibe, and your priorities inside and out. Behind the scenes, our whole team collaborates constantly, sharing ideas, solving challenges, and supporting one another to make every event seamless. So while you’ll have one main point of contact, you’ll always have the full support of the Something Blue team.

We believe transparency, peace of mind, and quick problem-solving are non-negotiables. Whether your celebration takes place in St. Louis or beyond, we’ll be there — organized, calm, and focused on creating a day that feels authentically yours, together. 🩵

Additionally, here is extra context on how we got our start: In 2015, Meagan got married. Desiree and Meagan worked together a lot on the planning for a year and a half before the wedding day. We did a lot of DIY, learned a LOT of things the hard way. After it was all said and done, we wanted to take all that we had learned and use it to help others in our lives. Meagan began helping her friends plan their weddings. Then she started helping them manage their timeline on the day of, and slowly grew her skills as a coordinator. Desiree realized that on her first daughter’s wedding day, she missed some opportunities to simply soak in the once-in-a-lifetime moments of watching her child get married, because she was so focused on making sure the day went perfectly. Afterwards, she was inspired to help her friends whose kids were getting married too. She started offering to be their “lady in waiting” to help free them up to be fully present, while she helped solve little problems and make sure both mom and bride had whatever they needed. After doing that for several years, and many of those years saying to each other “we should do this for real!” we finally founded Something Blue in 2022. Since then we have grown our team, our knowledge base, and continually refining our skills and resources for our clients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Shortly after starting our business in March of 2022, Meagan got an unexpected promotion at her day-job as a school nurse in July that caused her to lose her summers off. With a more demanding day-job and 2 little ones at home, suddenly Meagan was feeling stretched very thin. Showing up and giving 100% is a core value of hers, and doing so in all areas of her now much-busier life led her to feel limited in additional responsibilities that she could take on. At the same time, our business was growing rapidly and we were booking more clients than we had expected. By September of 2023, we brought on our first new team member to begin coordinating their own weddings alongside us. In the 3 years since, we have now grown to a team of 7 coordinators. We have added a wider range of packages, added more resources for our clients, and brought in others to help support our social media and bookkeeping. And we are not done growing yet!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our top priority is to help our clients bring their wedding vision to life. We are not set in what we feel is the “right way” to do things. Instead, we want to help our clients find ways to make their wedding dreams possible, no matter what they are. We value prompt communication because we want to relieve the stress of our clients, not add to it with long delays between replies. We are detail oriented, and we think of all the tiny things you didn’t even know that you didn’t know. We are experts in on-the-fly problem solving, because no matter how much you plan and prepare, there’s always something that needs resolving on a wedding day – and we aim to solve it before our clients even have a clue. We want to take the stress off of couples AND their families so that everyone is able to be present for one of the most important days of their lives.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
In the wedding world, we have found the best networking to happen on the wedding day. Nothing makes a better wedding day (as a wedding professional) than an amazing wedding vendor team all coming together to work as a cohesive unit with the best interest of the client as the top priority. As the coordinator, we feel that it is our job to make sure that all other vendors have what they need. When they feel equipped and supported, they are able to do their best work. Even if that just means making sure they get to eat, communicating clearly, and checking in on them. This is where we build the strongest bonds, and what makes them want to recommend us to their other clients so that we are able to work together again. We are also intentional to support our fellow wedding pros on social media and by recommending them to our clients when they provide excellent service. All of this helps us stay connected and build true friendships with our counterparts, which makes for excellent chemistry for our clients on wedding days.
