Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Gomez
Hi Jose, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well I was born in a small village named Siguatepeque in Honduras. I am one of 8 children. I came to the United States at the age of 18. I moved to Miami and found work on the Galileo cruise ship. After working for a few years on the cruise ship, I opened a small upholstery shop. At this same time I picked up a penchant for painting. I was able to find hone both my artistic craft and upholstery skills. After 10 years of living in the sunny seaside city of Miami, I relocated to St. Louis, Mo. I found myself working under different upholstery maestros in St. Louis. I eventually opened my own shop in the year 2000, and I have been here ever since. I have been serving the St. Louis community for over 20 years. And most recently, about 2 years ago I opened up an art gallery/atelier Art by Gomez. My paintings and original creations on display for all to view.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have experienced some challenges. You know the usual obstacles that come with opening a new business. It was difficult to build a client based from zero. However over the years, I have made a name for my business. It did take a while to establish myself in the community. But as you can see, we have grown and proven ourselves to be a staple in the community.

Gomez Upholstery been in business for over 20 years. We specialize in reupholstering beautiful antique pieces as well as original furniture designs. We do everything from residential to commercial upholstering and design.
What sets us apart is that we have the best materials and a team of highly skilled workers that have years of experience. We have premium products such as calfskin, zebra, and other exotic pelts and hides.
We are most proud of our reputation for the quality and efficiency of our work.
We offer an array of upholstery services, The Art by Gomez imprint also serves as a platform to exhibit my artwork and original creations and designs. We can turn concepts and ideas into reality.
I paint from the depths of my imagination, memories, dreams, and am inspired by existential concepts. I use bright, bold and even contrasting colors.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by the reward that is given from hard work and perseverance. Things are never easy, there are always lessons to be learned and wisdom to be gained. When you can visualize something and put the effort, time, and energy to see it through, that is success. Whether it be a lofty goal/aspiration, or something minimal like fitness or dieting, if you can attain what was once out of your reach, then you are successful.
