Community Highlights: Meet Kendyl Zimmerman of Esthetics by KP

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendyl Zimmerman.

Hi Kendyl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I graduated high school, I wasn’t exactly sure on what I wanted to do. I knew I didn’t want to be tied to a traditional office job, and I wanted a career where I could genuinely help people. While I was exploring my options, I attended STLCC and earned my associate’s degree, using that time to really figure out what direction felt right.
During my final semester, I started seriously looking into esthetics. Esthetics had been on the back of my mind for awhile, but I’d never given it too much thought. Once I began researching I became very excited and knew this was the right path. I connected with experienced estheticians, toured schools, and learned more about the industry. The more I learned the more I realized this was something I was truly passionate about. That’s when I made the decision to fully commit and enroll at Skin Institute. At Skin Institute I had the opportunity to learn from incredible instructors who played a role in shaping my education and teaching me what being an esthetician is all about.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had some ups and downs in my esthetics career. Once I became fully licensed, I started working at my first spa. I quickly realized that this spa wasn’t a great fit for me. I decided to take a few months to step back, regroup, and really think about my next move. During that time, I kept coming back to the idea of owning my own business. I started researching what it would take to build something of my own and began looking for a space to work out of. One of the biggest challenges early on was finding a place willing to take a chance on me renting from them without an existing clientele. Finally I found Salon Lofts and loved everything they had to offer. I quickly fell in love with the space and let the manager know I wanted to own my own loft. She had another esthetician interested in the space as well so she suggested we could share the loft. After giving it some thought I went ahead with sharing the space. Loft sharing was an incredibly valuable option that I didn’t even know existed. Loft sharing has given me the opportunity to grow my business while continuing to learn, gain experience, and build my confidence. Even though my journey hasn’t always been smooth, I’m incredibly grateful for every experience along the way and the lessons they’ve taught me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is centered around providing facials that deliver both results and relaxation. I offer customized facial treatments designed to support healthy skin and address individual skin concerns, while also giving clients a space to unwind and reset. Inclusiveness is a huge part of my brand. I want everyone to feel welcome in my space, no matter who they are or where they are in their skincare journey. I truly believe everyone deserves a place to slow down and take care of themselves. My goal is always to meet clients where they’re at, without judgment, and create an environment where they feel safe, seen, and supported.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest in this industry is being able to create a safe, welcoming space where everyone can truly unwind. Life gets busy, and self care is often the first thing to be pushed to the side. I love that I can give my clients a moment to slow down, relax, and reconnect with themselves. Helping someone leave feeling more confident in their skin, more grounded, and ready to take on whatever comes next is incredibly rewarding.
Outside of the business I find happiness in spending time with my family, my boyfriend, and my pets. They all have been incredibly supportive and helpful during this journey. I also love taking care of my little flower garden where I get to spend time outside and enjoy the fresh air.
