Today we’d like to introduce you to Markeisha Logan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My interest in numbers is what ultimately led to my career path in accounting. As a child I’ve always been good with numbers- memorizing numbers, mental math and financial calculations. After receiving my Bachelor of Science in Accounting, I began a small tax preparation business as a side hustle while working for Boeing. I later pursued my Master of Accountancy and eventually an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. My small business began to expand quickly with a high demand and increased number of clients during COVID. What began as a national crisis ended with an awakening in small business owners. They were able to understand the importance of allowing a professional to provide more assistance outside of tax preparation. Suddenly, my clientele for accounting and book-keeping quickly increased. After a short while, I stepped out on faith and retired from Boeing to solely focus on my business.
The prosperity of The Accounting Queen has motivated me to continue pursuing my dreams and reach for the stars. My empire expanded with the purchase of the strip mall my business was housed, a hookah lounge, luxury office suites and more to come soon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing great comes without obstacles or challenges. In entrepreneurship there will always be moments of trial and error and opportunities for growth. I tend to carefully plan out my business ideas and goals, but my biggest obstacle has always been trying to help my clients understand the importance of staying compliant with the IRS. Education, tax best practices and accounting systems can sometimes be challenging to convey to my clients in a way that will resonate with them. I’m very transparent with my clients and continuously educate them on how to avoid issues of compliance and default, but it is not always easy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Accountant/Enrolled Agent who specializes in tax. As an Enrolled Agent, I hold the highest designated title with the IRS and can represent you just as a CPA or attorney can. I offer services of personal and business tax preparation, accounting, book keeping and tax relief.
My expertise in tax knowledge as an EA is what sets me apart from other tax preparers. As a business owner, it’s more beneficial to your business for you to have an enrolled agent as opposed to a tax preparer. The analogy I like to use to help my clients understand is if someone is unfortunately battling cancer, they wouldn’t want to consult with a general primary care doctor. They would want to reach out to an oncologist- some one who specializes in the matter. My position as an EA is just as imperative for business professionals.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
The summer time with family was always joyous for me as a child. With my birthday in July, my summers were always filled with water parks, six flags, parties with friends and family and endless memories. For months I was able to stay up late, eat all the ice cream I want and go on countless adventures with friends and family.
