Community Highlights: Meet Rory Meyers of Meyers Construction & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rory Meyers.

Hi Rory, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to St. Louis when I was 18 years old from Hannibal Missouri to find work in the construction field. I didn’t have a dollar to my name and remember times when I had to choose between paying rent or buying food. I would work during the winters doing what’s called refractory work, going into cement plants and redoing them before the summer season got here. Then in the summers I would find odd and end jobs like being a waiter or valet in cars. When the economy fell through in approximately 2010, I was going through craigslist and found a job for a site supervisor for a commercial roofing company. I applied and started there as a site supervisor and worked my way up finally leaving for a small company in Ellisville called Wildwood roofing and construction, starting their commercial division which is still successful today. I then decided to venture out on my own approximately four years ago starting in my house and my garage and I have just finished remodeling the new building I purchased this year as I continue to grow .

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting out, and moving to St. Louis with no education, no knowledge, and complete ignorance of the world was a definite challenge and I just continue to work knowing that I didn’t wanna be in that situation and I continued to make decisions as well as risks to get to where I have gotten today. There are always struggles in life, it’s just how you deal with him as what sets you apart from other people. My entire young adult life was a struggle. I never got to do what all my friends were doing like going to college and living in frats and partying and seeing each other all the time. I was trying to scrape by just to survive on my own. And then there’s also all the other little things that life likes to throw at you during that period. After starting my commercial roofing company, it has been a pretty smooth road because I offer a great service at a fair price and have a great client relationship when it comes to a Roofs.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in commercial flat roofing. We also do residential flat roofing as well. What sets me apart from others is my client relationship and my attentiveness towards the client. They are always in the know and completely up-to-date when it comes to anything with the roof project. A roof project is not a sexy purchase but I make the project as smooth as possible for the client. I use the brand Johns Manville which is a Berkshire Hathaway product and a top-tier roofing manufacture. We also do EP DM and PVC applications. But we are biased towards TPO because the other products are inferior.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
We weren’t really affected in anyway with Covid.
