Community Highlights: Meet Sara Graham of EngageTaste

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Graham.

Hi Sara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began in sustainable architecture, spending a decade focused on passive energy harvesting, carbon tracking, and community education. I collaborated with incredibly talented teams on massive, global projects where precision, creativity, and coordination were everything.

While the science of sustainability fascinated me, I soon realized I was most drawn to the people behind the projects. I discovered that sustainability gains traction when it’s not just about data, but speaks through stories that others can see themselves in.

That shift led me to food writing—a space where story and craft meet every day. I began contributing to publications like Zagat, Sauce Magazine, and St. Louis Magazine, telling the stories of restaurant owners and chefs following their dreams. Before long, the people I was writing about began inviting me into something deeper: shaping not just their stories, but their brand.

Today, my work centers around creating beauty and helping my clients communicate what they love. I founded EngageTaste in 2013 as a web design, branding, and content creation agency built on a simple philosophy: good design builds trust. I see myself as a creative partner: part producer, part art director, part editor. As both a designer and a writer, I help uncover the heart of a brand. Typography, imagery, layout, and language all work together to create a rich visual experience that connects and converts.

For over a decade, I’ve worked with clients around the world to bring their vision to life, and help them focus on what they do best. That commitment earned me a place on Squarespace’s Platinum-level designer team, their highest tier.

Every website I build is a chance to change the trajectory of a business and the lives it touches, which is hugely rewarding to me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not exactly—but I think that’s true for most business owners. I’ve learned a lot along the way: how to build systems that make the day-to-day run more smoothly, how to bring the right people on board, and how to keep new work coming in while giving my full attention to the clients I already have. There’s been trial and error, for sure, but also a lot of clarity that’s come from simply showing up and doing the work. It’s a process, and I’m still learning—but I feel grateful for everything it’s taught me so far.

As you know, we’re big fans of EngageTaste. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My design approach is grounded in clarity, rhythm, and depth. Every decision is guided by a sense of balance and flow, enriched with texture and layering, shaped by color and tone, and anchored by a strong focal point. These elements work together to create an experience that feels cohesive, expressive, and entirely your own.
My process is equal parts strategy, storytelling, and design. With a background in both writing and visual communication, I’m always thinking about how a visitor will move through the site—what they’ll read, what they’ll feel, what they’ll do next.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
So many people. My first decade in sustainable architecture shaped so much of how I approach my work today. I had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most talented people I’ve ever met—architectural designers, civil and structural engineers, landscape architects, interior designers, IT staff, contractors, marketers, project managers, product reps, and manufacturers. Together, they brought an incredible level of precision, creativity, and coordination to projects that were often massive in scale and global in significance. Being part of those teams taught me what it means to work at a high level, and how powerful it is when expertise and vision come together.

Today, even though I work solo much of the time, I’m not doing this alone. I have two part-time team members who provide essential support, and I’m always learning from others in the web design community—whether that’s through watching talks, connecting with peers, or studying the work of designers I admire.

And of course, my clients play a big role. Their trust, honesty, and enthusiasm shape every project and make this work meaningful.
