Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Pearce
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to becoming a doula started when I became a teen mom. Being young and scared, I turned to knowledge for comfort. I studied and read everything I could about pregnancy and birth. That was over 18 years ago now and my desire for knowledge all things pregnancy, birth and baby has not dissipated. It’s only grown stronger.
A few years after having my fourth child, I discovered the role of a doula and immediately knew it was for me. I focused on Birth Doula services for several years before attending Southeastern IL College and obtaining my Practical Nursing License (LPN) in IL. I worked through the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic as a Pediatric hospice nurse before leaving the nursing field to homeschool my children for the year and return back to doula work full time.
I have furthered my education with various trainings and CEUs while maintaining my nursing license. Additional education includes: Bereavement Doula, Postpartum Doula, Newborn Care Specialist, Placenta Specialist, Emergency Childbirth Education, CPR & FIrst Aid plus more. I truly enjoy learning how to better support families in any situation.
In 2022, I moved to the St. Louis area and went right to work serving families primarily with Overnight Postpartum Doula support. Since coming to the region, I’ve been able to connect with other amazing doulas and build my team at Trinity Doula Services three time what it was.
Trinity Doula Services even has a billboard up in Festus now! The next piece of our doula puzzle to come is the TDS Birth Doula Trainings. Helping aspiring doulas get a start into the birth community and serving families.
I’ve also incorporated my desire to serve families into a charity called The Little Resource Center Inc. A family resource center aimed at supporting families who need it most in the community here (Arnold & Cedar Hill) but back home in Southeastern Illinois as well (Carbondale & Carterville), providing formula, diapers, wipes, clothing and more without any religious or political bias.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Looking back, I can see how many obstacles I’ve been able to overcome and keep on this journey of building my Birth Empire. From rude care providers, to older doulas gatekeeping – I’ve seen some things.
Learning how to run a business with no prior experience was a challenge in the start for sure. Words of advice – hire that accountant/cpa.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
