Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrelle Taylor-Calhoun.
Hi Sherrelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my start in business as a virtual assistant in 2015. I’ve always been the person people came to when they needed help figuring something out, building something new, or managing what they have. Resumes, business ideas, next steps in life, it didn’t matter. I’m a mother to three kids on the spectrum, so I’m no stranger to organization, planning, and building. I was already doing the work long before I ever called it consulting.
Over time, I invested a lot into learning how things actually work behind the scenes. Marketing, business strategy, career development, design, tech. I wanted to understand how to build something that makes sense and actually holds up in real life. I’ve run my own business, supported others behind the scenes, and stayed in that space even during the times I stepped back.
One of the biggest turning points for me was realizing I was undervaluing what I brought to the table. That experience forced me to move differently, set better boundaries, and get clear on how I wanted to show up and who I wanted to help.
WiseLuxe Consulting came out of that shift, and it brings everything I know together in one place. I focus on helping businesses get organized, think strategically, and position their unique marketing needs in a way that creates revenue.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.
One of my biggest challenges early on was not setting strong enough boundaries and undercharging for the work I was doing. I was so focused on helping people and making things work that I wasn’t always thinking about sustainability on my end. That led to situations where I was overextending myself and not being compensated in a way that matched the value I was bringing.
At the time, it felt like part of the process, but looking back, it taught me some necessary lessons about self-respect, business structure, and how important it is to be clear about your worth from the start.
I also had to learn that being skilled isn’t enough on its own. You have to know how to position what you do, communicate it clearly, and protect your time and energy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
WiseLuxe Consulting came from seeing what was missing in how people build and market their businesses.
I work with entrepreneurs and professionals who are either starting from nothing or trying to fix something that is not working. I help build brands from the ground up, clean up and reposition existing ones, create marketing plans, and actually carry those plans out.
My services include: marketing audits, social media strategy plans, email and SMS marketing, ad creation & management, website design, and marketing asset creation. Everything I offer is built around helping businesses communicate clearly, reach the right people, and bring in revenue in a way that feels aligned.
What I’m known for is being able to look at what someone has and immediately see what’s missing, what’s out of place, and what needs to happen next. A lot of people are moving without direction or are piecing things together as they go. I step in and get everything aligned so it can move the way it is supposed to.
I don’t follow trends just because they’re popular. I pay attention to what fits the business, the audience, and the goal. That’s why the strategies I create are different for each business I work with.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to take an idea and turn it into something real. Something that people can see, use, and make money from. I’ve built brands from scratch and helped bring life back into ones that were stuck.
I want people to know that when they work with WiseLuxe, they’re getting more than advice. They’re getting someone who can see the vision, build it out, and help move business marketing forward the right way.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
For me, it has been more about recognizing opportunities and being prepared enough to act on them. I’ve spent a lot of time investing in my education and building my skill set, so when something presents itself, I can actually do something with it.
There have been moments that did not go the way I expected, especially earlier on when I was not setting strong boundaries or charging what I should have. At the time, it felt like things just were not working in my favor, but those experiences forced me to move differently and be more intentional about how I run my business.
I pay attention, I learn, and I adjust quickly. That has made a bigger difference for me than luck ever could.
I think when you stay ready and continue to grow, opportunities show up in a way that might look like luck from the outside, but it is really preparation meeting the right moment.
