Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyneisha Jackson.
Tyneisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Tyneisha but you can call me Ty. I am the owner of Savory Delights. I started my business in 2019 only selling deserts in a jar. At the time, it was never my intent to go full-time with it, it was just something to make some extra money.
During this time, I got pregnant with my daughter and completely stopped cooking, and found myself a call center job. After a few months, I knew that this was no longer for me and had it set in my mind that something needs to change.
A month after having my daughter, I went back to selling my deserts but also adding cakes, and started selling plates of food out of my grandma’s kitchen. Things started slow but I kept at it. Cooking is my peace and my joy.
Within 6 months my business went from a clientele of about 30 to a few hundred people, But for some reason, I still didn’t believe in myself. I started back working for another call center job at home, it was a struggle because the hours did not match my children’s daycare or school schedule.
Having to constantly depend on help to pick them up from school, having to constantly call off when they are sick, receiving point after point because of no help. I realized again something has to change. I remember calling my mom and telling her how I wanted to quit my job and just start cooking full time, she told me to add up my bills on what I pay a month and divide that in 30 days to see what I need to make daily.
I say ok I need to make about $100 a day. So I tested it out and cooked on a Saturday for 4hrs and made $500. I called my mom so fast and said “Yeah ok, I’m going to quit I got this”. At the time, this was the end of November 2020. Fast forward a year and a half later, my business has cooked for thousands of people. I attended THE BLACK TASTE OF STL and had the longest line all 3 days.
If someone would have told me that 3 years ago my business would strive or let alone I would be working for myself I wouldn’t have believed them at all. Sometimes all it takes is a leap of faith to just say I can do it don’t give up. I’m glad I took that leap because now I have more time with my kids. Plus, it shows them that mommy did it through everything that was thrown at her she did it while raising us.
Don’t give up go after your dream. No, it won’t happen overnight but with consistency and dedication, you can make a lot happen. My parents, my family, my friends, and my lovely customers have definitely helped me through this journey and watched me grow like a rose coming up from the concrete.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Noooo not at all, lol. My main struggle was raising 3 kids as a single parent and trying to run a business to make money so bills can be paid. Also, the pandemic played a huge role in affecting everyone.
And of course, battling my own thoughts feeling like maybe this might not be good enough or what if I fail.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Savory Delights?
I cook homemade meals that will have you relaxed and ready to take a nap. Some of my meals consist of pasta, soul food, salmon, lamb chops turkey legs, etc.
I am known for my tacos, they have gained so much attention within the last year. I would say my personality, the flavor in my food, and the love I have for cooking are what sets me apart from others, my customers always say every bite is a taste of love.
That my food reminds them of their great aunt or grandma cooking. New customers can follow me on Instagram @savory_delights1 or on Facebook @savorydelights1.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
